I know that is not possible. but this is pretty annoying. Wonder if there's a way to get back to windows 10 without formatting my computer or if it's there a workaround to make this work in windows 11, this feature helps a lot.why it was removed in first place, anyway what ever the reason is why remove it in first place, you make an option to turn it on/off so people with troubles with it can just disable it without removing it for everyone, including people that need it to workthank yoiu

  2. How to drag subfolder (or file) to parent folder via taskbar?

    Dear Microsoft,

I am not sure if this is a bug or a feature but, after a recent update, I find that it is not possible to drag subordinate subfolders or documents and drop them into a parent folder (via taskbar). Presently, I am on Windows 11 Version 22H2 (OS Build 22621.2428).

For instance, if I have Folder 1 (in the Desktop) comprising 3 subfolders (1A, 1B, 1C), I cannot drag and drop any of these subfolders into the desktop (at the top taskbar) to create a new desktop folder.

However, I am still able to do this via cutting the folder and pasting it in the desktop or by opening two file explorers side-by-side and dragging and dropping the subfolder into the desktop in the different file explorer.

This same issue is observed for subordinate documents of any folder. Thank you for your help and I appreciate any advice or help with this!

  3. How to drag subfolder (or file) to parent folder via taskbar?

Hello Pyroclastic, thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community. I am here to help and provide assistance with any questions or concerns you may have.

You're correct regarding the issue you've observed, and it's important to note that this behavior is intentional and not a software bug. It appears that beginning with Windows 11 Version 22H2, the capability to drag a file or subfolder to the address bar of File Explorer in order to copy or move it to a parent folder or a different location in the path has been disabled.

Numerous forum users have raised this issue:

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/for...

However, there are some workarounds you can try:

    1. You can still cut the folder and paste it in the desired location.

    2. You can open two File Explorer windows side-by-side and drag and drop the subfolder or file into the desired location in the different File Explorer window.

Many individuals, myself included, are eager to see the return of this feature. I recommend using the Feedback Hub to formally request it as an added functionality.

Alternatively, if you come across someone else who has already posted about this, consider supporting their request by upvoting it. You can access the Feedback Hub through this link:

Let me know if you have any other questions or if there is anything else I can do to assist you.

  4. How to drag subfolder or file to parent folder via taskbar?

Why does Windows 10 exit to parent folder up on dragging a file to a network folder?

Can you provide some reproduction steps so I can test it out in the lab? Correct me if I have this wrong:

    • Open network folder ( \\server\folder\subfolder )
    • Take a file from desktop, and drag it into the openeed folder
    • The opened folder will jump up a level (to the "folder" in this example) after releasing

    Is that right?
