Windows 10: How to dual boot Windows 10 and 7 on separate HDDs

I added a second HDD containing Win10 to Win7 machine with the intent of using EasyBCD to accomplish a dual boot setup. I'm not sure how but Win10 performed a repair on the Win7 drive making it unbootable. I removed the Win7 drive and Win10 boots fine. Therefore, if it is possible, can someone point me to instructions on setting up this type of dual boot?

What is the best way to set up a dual boot of Windows 7 and 10 after a fresh install of Windows 10

Windows 7 and 10 hate each other, I had dual boot W7/10 and they just want to repair each other all the time which ends up screwing the install and then refuses to boot. You have to install W7 first I think then Windows 10, you cant do it the other way around. This was on 2 separate HDDs

Have Win 10 on SSD C:\ and a failing HDD with Win 7 and some programs I don't want to lose. I have a new HDD to use to create a dual boot. Media for Win 7 is no longer available. How do I clone the failing disk into a bootable partition on the new HDD?

 

Dual Booting with Windows 8.1


The procedure below will allow you to boot Windows separately or in dual boot configuration.
Here's what I recommend to do:

1. Disconnect the drive containing Windows 8.1
2. Install Windows 10 with one drive connected.
3. After step 2, reconnect the drive containing Windows 8.1
4. Boot up Windows 8.1. Open disk management and take a note of the drive letter of Windows 10 OS.
   NOTE: if you boot up Windows 10, then take a note of Windows 8.1 drive letter
5. Open Admin command prompt and type: bcdboot X:\windows where X: is the drive letter of Windows 10 (Windows 8.1 if you boot from Windows 10 in step 4)
6. Reboot the PC. You should have a dual boot screen.

NOTE: To break off the dual boot setting, Win+R->msconfig->boot and delete the none default entry on the list.
