Windows 10: How to enable microphone only when external microphone is plugged in?

When I unplug my external microphone, the built-in microphone activates. When I go into my sound settings and disable the microphone, it disables both the built-in microphone and the external microphone. Is there a way to set up my sound so that I can only have an external microphone enabled without having the built in one enabled?

Easy enable/disable microphone?

My bro just got a microphone and I was wondering if there's an easy way to enable or disable it. I know you can right click on the volume icon, click on select recording devices then select the microphone, then click properties, then click on levels, and mute it - but that's just way too many steps, I'm looking for a more obvious and much easier way to do it.

 

Plug in your microphone

Your computer may be having an issue detecting your microphone that is why you're always seeing the notification. We recommend that you disable, and then re-enable your microphone to resolve the issue. To do this, follow these steps:

• On the lower right part of your screen, right-click the speaker or sound icon.
• Choose Recording devices.
• Right-click on the list of recording devices, and then make sure that the
  Show disabled devices option is checked. If the option is not checked, kindly click it.
  
• Right-click on your microphone, and then select Disable.
• Right-click again on your microphone, and then select Enable.
• Click OK.
• Check if you'll encounter the microphone notification again.
