Windows 10: How to fix "A disk read error occurred" on my toshiba satellite l30 running windows Xp

Hi , I have a toshiba satellite L30 laptop that runs windows Xp Home , it was given to me by a family member , I've turned it on and was welcomed by an error message saying "A Disk Read Error Occurred" I've checked the ram , and hard drive but both are plugged in properly, I can access the BIOs easily , I don't have a boot disc for the laptop but only the laptop it self , I don't need any data on the laptop to I've tried to factory reset it using all methods F8 and 0 , none works , all it dose is keeps beeping loud for as long as I hold down F8 or 0 keys to open boot menu , when I release th

Hey guys,

does anyone by chance have the following notebook:

satellite L30-C330T -Toshiba

They are super cheap here in Thailand at the moment and i think i might grab one (469 USD)

Just wanted to know what the deal was given that they are so cheap.

The specs of the machine on offer are as follows:
1.6 ghz Celeron cpu (M380)
xp starter ed.
256mbddr2 RAM
14" screen
CDRW/ DVD-ROM
2 USB, LAN, PC card

very entry level in terms of specs but damn- 469USD!

"A Disk Read Error Occurred"

I tried to install windows 2000, and after i do a format, and after it copies the files, it says the computer must be restarted, but after it restarts, i get a message that says:

"A Disk Read Error Occurred"

Do i have to hit f6 and install something?
i do have SATA.

As far as the Disk read errors, try running a chkdsk on the drive first. And, check you smart data for the drive.
But, really, a little more info would be nice.
