Windows 10: How to fix audio if audio driver has disappeared/no audio device is installed?

Yesterday, I updated my audio driver using a third-party software and now the driver itself has completely disappeared.In Device Manager, there is no audio category or audio driver.I have run both the new and old troubleshooter and both of them can't recognise anything.The symbol in the taskbar / symbol when trying to increase or decrease volume shows up as a speaker with a filled circle and cross within it.Hovering over the taskbar icon gives me the text: "No audio device installed".I have tried plugging in another audio output device eg headphones and earphones and it still shows the same

Numerous audio devices - why?

Looks like you have audio drivers installed for your AMD card. If you don't use it, you should be able to just uninstall that aspect of AMD drivers. I don't use the Audio through my Nvidia card, so I just don't install that driver.

Or, just ignore them as you suggest.

 

HDMI audio driver for ASUS X551M laptop?

This is from Intel regarding hdmi:

• Install the latest Intel® Graphics Driver, this also installs the latest audio codecs for HDMI.
• After driver installation, connect to the HDMI TV or digital display, using a HDMI cable.
• Select HDMI audio as your default playback device. Click Start>Control Panel>Hardware and Sound.
• Click Sound. The Playback tab lists the audio playback devices for your computer.
• Right-click on the device for HDMI audio, and select Set as Default Device.

Run troubleshooter

• For help fixing audio or sound problems, try the audio troubleshooter. It might be able to fix audio problems automatically.

• To run the troubleshooter, select the Start button, type audio troubleshooter, and then select Find and fix audio playback problems from the list of results and select Next.

Check Device Manager

• Try these steps:

○ Open Start , type Device Manager, and select it from the list of results. Under Sound, video and game controllers, select your sound card, open it, select the Driver tab, and select Update Driver. If Windows doesn't find a new driver, look for one on the
device manufacturer's website and follow their instructions.

• If that didn't work, try this:

○ Uninstall your audio driver: open Device Manager, right-click (or press and hold) the audio driver, and select Uninstall. Restart your device and Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver.

• And if that didn't work, try using the generic audio driver that comes with Windows. Here's how:

○ Open Device Manager, right-click (or press and hold) your audio driver > Update driver software...> Browse my computer for driver software > Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer, select High Definition Audio Device, select Next, and follow
the instructions to install it.
