  1. How to fix BCDBOOT assignment to the incorrect volume?

    Background:

I have a brand new B550i that has been a nightmare to work with the last two weeks (considering RMA at this point). Fresh installs of W10 on multiple different harddrives and it still was giving me booting problems (would hang on startup, then would automatically enter the Recovery Environment and the only thing that seemed to work was restoring to earlier points. I created a new restore point after every successful update or installation and crawled my way to a point where I have my "old computer" again).

Any successful start had freezing and sometimes unexpected restarts, so I had little control over my PC. After changing the RAM clock speed to it's indicated speed (BIOS had it underclocked by default), the hangups have been less frequent and less fatal. However, restarting is always a fingers-crossed scenario, so I got fed up with it and searched for other solutions. I tried using the bootrec tools but stumbled on an access denied error for"/fixboot" and thus tried using the bcdboot commands. I may have used bcdboot /s ___ UEFI on the wrong partition and I don't know how to undo this!

    Issue:

Now, as a result of using command tools without knowing what I am doing, I have been getting BSOD instead of the recovery environment. When I press F1 to enter the recovery environment from the BSOD, it goes fine, but now there is an extra step when troubleshooting - choosing a language.
Also, the BIOS now shows two boot managers instead of one for the same drive. I also, in luck, no longer have to system restore, as pressing enter to try again at BSOD seems to have an amazing 50% chance of successful boot into windows, which means I have access to my system most of the time. However, msconfig boot tab is only showing one boot entry (same with EasyBCD) so I can't get rid of the one that is there.

I also notice that swapping the windows bootmanager entries in the bios changes which of my desktop resolutions are available to me.

    Question:

Is there any way to undo bcdboot C:\windows /s (drive letter) /f UEFI when it has been used on the wrong volume/partition?

Thanks. Also welcome to subreddit suggestions regarding this.

type in list volume..... your array volume should come up.... if so

    type in Select volume 7
    assign

let me know if your volume is not there.

Missing boot volume can't fix boot

Thanks John, I appreciate your help through this. It looks like Navy's steps were for the partition not volume? Just want to confirm the below steps will be what i need considering my screenshot from before.

    At the Diskpart Screen
    sel dis 0
    sel par 2
    del par override
    cre par EFI
    for fs=FAT32 quick
    assign letter=T
    exit
    bcdboot C:\Windows /s T: /f ALL
    exit

    Then reboot the computer.

  4. How to fix BCDBOOT assignment to the incorrect volume?

Can't assign volume names in File Explorer

This reply by Karthicka_R was NOT helpful. It didn't cause the label to show up in File Explorer.

It is just one more way of assigning volume labels, and along with the other ways I've illustrated above, it doesn't address the root problem that volume labels don't appear in File Explorer for this external drive.

Besides, the fix suggested by Karthicka_R involves using the Diskpart command, and the only way I can see to use it to assign a name to a volume is to format the volume. Then I lose all the data on the volume. Thus, this seems to me to be a cavalier response
    to my problem.
