Installing Microsoft® ODBC Driver 17 on windows 10.
During the install, Microsoft ODBC Driver 17 for SQL Server setup stops and shows "A previous installation required a reboot of the machine for changes to take effect. To proceed, restart your computer then run Setup again.
    rebooted but not fixed.
4 reboots and then tried install again. Same issue.

    Hi,

    • Have you checked if the hard disk is set as first boot device in the BIOS?
    • Which version of Windows is installed on the computer?
    • What did the HP supported suggested you to fix the issue?

    Can't install ODBC 17 driver

I have an 8.1 system where I am unable to install odbc 17 drivers.

I downloaded the driver here: Download Microsoft® ODBC Driver 17 for SQL Server® - Windows, Linux, & macOS from Official Microsoft Download Center

When I run it, it says that the Visual C++ 2017 Redistributable is not installed. I then installed it from:

    http://aka.ms/vs/15/release/vc_redist.x64.exe

It installed successfully, but the odbc driver still says that it is not installed.

I have restarted/installed with Admin privileges / disabled anti virus / tried uninstalling and reinstalling.

I feel it is also worth noting that windows update also won't work. It keeps saying checking for updates perpetually.

I downloaded the windows update diagnostic tool and it says that it fixed:

service registration is missing or corrupt

    windows update error 0x80070490(2019-11-19-T-05_10_36P)

    Problems installing recent updates

It says it fixed everything, however it still sits on checking for updates. I can run the tool again and it says the same thing.

    Any help would be appreciated!

Windows 10 Anniversary Update Reboot in endless loop

I updated my HP Windows 10 Pro laptop with the recent Windows 10 Anniversary update. It was successful for the most part however the last update reboot went into an endless loop for more than 24 hours, so I have tried Shift+F8 at Power-on and the self repair
has failed, the rollback to previous install has failed, now I am doing reinstall to factory setting while saving my data. It has also been in endless loop for more than 12 hours. Can someone please suggest a solution?

Also I had the same endless loop reboot problem on my Desktop upgrade, however I was able to overcome by aborting the reboot with Ctrl-C. I suspected that my Norton Antivirus may be keeping in the endless loop so I uninstalled it. My desktop issues is now
    resolved.

However the same Ctrl-C is not working on Laptop. Also my laptop does not have antivirus but Windows Defender, so it is not the same issue there. I suspect it is some driver that is not compatible, but I not sure how to override or rollback to previous install?
