Windows 10: How to fix "Please update device's setting to enable media transfer" error?

whenever I connect my phone xiaomi mi note 10, android to my pc via a usb cable and open the photos application on my windows 11 laptop i keep getting this error "Please update your device's settings to accept media transfers" same issue arises on my windows 10 computer, I have tried selecting file transfer mode and ptp transfer modes on my phone and selecting photo transfer on my laptop but still the same issue comes up, I have even tried using a variety of usb cables ranging from random ones to charging ones i use on a daily basis

A simple solution but one that works in most circumstances!

1. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.

2. In the list of services, right-click Automatic Updates, and then click Properties.

3. In the Startup type list, click Automatic, and then click Apply.

4. If Service status is set to Stopped, click Start, and then click OK.

5. Right-click Background Intelligent Transfer Service, and then click Properties.

6. In the Startup type list, click Manual, and then click Apply.

7. If Service status is set to Stopped, click Start, and then click OK.

Error 0x800F0922 when enabling media player in windows 10 1607

Running Windows 10 (1607) - Media Feature is listed in the windows features - when I check to enable I get error 0x800F0922. .Net 3.5 fully enabled without errors. Need to enable Windows Media Features for some of the other applications to work. I have
already tried various things including reinstalling 1607 - does not help. Desperate to get this fixed. Any suggestion is much appreciated.
