Hardware: Samsung Galaxybook 2, model NP550XED-KF3BR, I5 1235U, 24Gb RAM, Intel® Iris® Xe GraphicsUpdating graphics drivers at Intel website to the latest version 31.0.x results in Windows Update trying to revert it to an earlier version 30.0.x, which has much worse performance. The only workaround available is to keep reverting the drivers to the updated version after Windows rolls it back. The thing is, this issue comes back everytime Windows updates itself, and I don't want to keep disabling Windows updates just to prevent this. Furthermore, disabling it is only a temporary thing, since

  2. reverting to an older graphics driver

Windows 11 may be trying to revert your graphics driver back to an older version because it has detected a compatibility issue with the new driver. This could be due to a number of reasons such as a bug in the driver or an incompatibility with another piece of software on your computer.

However, if you have noticed a significant improvement in performance after installing the new graphics driver, then it may be worth trying to keep it installed. You can try disabling automatic driver updates in Windows 11 and manually installing the new driver again.

To disable automatic driver updates in Windows 11, follow these steps:

    1. Click on the Start button and then click on the Settings icon.
    2. Click on the Update & Security option.
    3. Click on the Windows Update option.
    4. Click on the Advanced options link.
    5. Under the "Optional updates" section, click on the "Driver updates" option.
    6. Turn off the toggle switch for "Automatically install drivers".
Once you have disabled automatic driver updates, you can download and install the new graphics driver again from the manufacturer's website. If Windows 11 still tries to revert the driver back to the older version, you can try using a third-party driver update tool to help you keep the newer driver installed.

Note: Before making any changes to your system settings, it's always a good idea to create a backup of your important files and data.

reverting to an older graphics driver

Hi. I'm David, and I'm happy to help you.

Developers, from time to time, release improvements and fix bugs in graphics drivers that can improve system performance. That's why it's important to keep your graphics driver updated nowadays.

How is Windows trying to roll back the driver?

Is Windows Update listing an older version of the driver, or when restarting the computer the old version is installed?
