  1. How to fix: "Web browsing: restore recommended."

In the upper right corner of the Windows 10 Settings page, I see a notice that says, "Web browsing: restore recommended." When I click on that I get a page that invites me to "Use Microsoft recommended browser settings." Two choices are presented: 1. Set Microsoft Edge as your default browser. 2. Set Microsoft Bing as your default search engine. Both options are checked. I dutifully click Confirm, but the notification in Settings will not change. I've repeated this process several times. Any idea why and what to do about it?

    :)

[Solved] Web Browsing Timing Out Frequently But Downloads Unaffected

Google DNS is a good thing to test, which is why it is commonly suggested. *Wink How to fix: "Web browsing: restore recommended." ;)

As I explained before, ISP DNS servers can cause issues, go down, and not be updated to your device providing DNS. If you want to go a step further, login to your router and set the DNS servers uses and provides over DHCP to the Google DNS and remove the ISP DNS servers. Be done with it.

I also strongly recommend OpenDNS servers for safer browsing, especially if you're not into browsing malicious, porn or questionable sites. 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.222.222. Those are what I use at home...effective DNS filtering to keep many bad sites that are flagged with malware out of your home network and web browsers. Free and effective.

At this point if its working, I'd say use it for a day and see if issues come back...if so then the other things I suggested might be worth looking at.

    Quick DNS 101

DNS = Domain Name Servers... what it does is take what you type in your web browser, or for ping, or some name domain request...take Techpowerup.com. DNS takes that and looks into an index/cache to find out what address it is...say 123.123.123.123 and then sends the reply to the ping session, web browser, etc. so you can go to Techpowerup.com.

DNS is like a phone book, you look up a person's name for their phone number to call them and connect. DNS does that for web sites and services. It is critical for web site usage where everyone can remember domain names, but not IP addresses.

  3. Web pages did not open

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

Apologize for the difficulties that you're experiencing in Windows 10.

    • Which web browser are you using?
    • Is the issue confined to any specific website?
This issue could have occurred due to corrupted cache/cookies/browsing history stored in the browser.

Cookies are small files that websites put on your PC to store information about you and your preferences. Cookies can make your browsing experience better by letting sites remember your preferences or letting you avoid signing
in each time you visit certain sites.

    Step 1:
As an initial step, I suggest you to check the issue with a different browser and also try to clear the browser's cache/cookies/browsing history and check if it helps.

    Step 2: Internet Connections troubleshooter.

This will find and fix problems with connecting to the internet or to websites.

    Follow the steps:

    • Type troubleshooting in the search bar.
    • Select Troubleshooting.
    • Select View all on the top left corner.
    • Click on Internet Connections.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions.

    Hope it helps.

Let us know the status, we are glad to assist you further.

  4. How to fix: "Web browsing: restore recommended."

how to fix "this web page is not available"

    Hi,

Thank you for coming back to us with the information.

Since you are using Microsoft edge, let’s try different troubleshooting steps and check if this helps in resolving the issue. Follow the below method.

    Method 1.

I recommend you to delete browsing history, cookies and cached and check.

    • Open Microsoft edge and click on () button.

    • Go to settings and click on Choose what to clear
      tab under clear browsing data.
    • And clear browsing history, cached and cookies.
If the issue still persist, try the below method.

    Method 2.

I suggest you to reset the Microsoft edge and check what the status is.

    • Navigate to the location:

      C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe

    • Delete everything in this folder.

    • Type Windows Powershell in search box.

    • Right click on Windows Powershell and select Run as administrator.

    • Copy and paste the following command.

      Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers -Name Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml" –Verbose}

Disclaimer: The Reset Edge Settings feature might reset security settings or privacy settings that you added to the list of Trusted Sites. The Reset Edge Settings feature might also reset parental control settings. We recommend
that you note these sites before you use the Reset Edge Settings feature. Resetting Edge isn't reversible, and all previous settings are deleted.

For the issue with Google chrome, I suggest you to uninstall/reinstall the program and check. If that does not help I recommend you to contact Google chrome support team for further assistance.

Hope this helps. Keep posting us with the status we will be glad to help you.
