Windows 10: How to fix Windows 11 file explorer not allowing Downloads folder to open?

Everytime I try to open up my downloads folder, the File Explorer tells me that it is "working on it" then never opens. If I try to close the File Explorer Window, then my taskbar goes away, sometimes my desktop goes gray I've tried to include screenshots and it will not allow me to.I have tried what has been posted in a bunch of other forums and nothing is working. I need to access my downloads folder but it keeps locking up my computer when I try and I have to restart it.Any help would be appreciated!

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Windows explorer crashing

Hi,

I am having the same problem as the OP in this thread.
Windows Explorer crashes whenever I open my external HDD or thumb drive in explorer..

I have tried the fixes listed in the above thread and I am getting the same error message as 'ktadie' (post 16). I think this is because I am running Windows 7 Professional. Windows explorer crashes when I open my 'Films' folder on my brand new 2tb external HDD. I have about 300 .avi files in this folder and some of the .avi files are several years old.

In short I believe I need the same fix given by 'Wile E' (post 7) but updated for Windows 7 Professional.
