    How to fix Windows 11 PC black screen with solid white horizontal bar at boot up?


    I used my windows 11 computer last night no problem. I started an update during shut down as I went to bed. This morning, when booting up my PC, I get a black screen with solid white horizontal bar at upper left of my hdmi screen.To troubleshoot, I have restarted several times including powering off the PSU switch completely. Tried mashing F2 or the Delete key on boot up. Checked that my motherboard debugging LEDs are not showing any errors. What do I do?

    Windows 10 Pro White Bar of Death?

    Windows 10 Pro PC fully updated... 11/17/2016

    I did see an update needs to reboot and chose "reboot later". Several hours later, while I was still working on my pc, the screen went black, then the pc shut down.

    On power up, I could see the BIOS screen then the Windows 10 Startup screen with a circle of dots for 2 or 3 seconds then a solid black screen with a white bar at the top covering an "inch" of space from the left edge to the right edge on the main display
    and a solid black screen on the secondary display.

    I disconnected the primary display and tried booting up on the secondary only and the same white bar was at the top after a few seconds of the Windows 10 circle of dots.

    I tried LogMeIn and only got a black screen.

    I could not try a remote desktop yet.

    I'm assuming a video drive update at this moment.

    Any ideas?

    Sounds like the old... windows black screen of death.

    Try this quoted from "VisiHow" article "Repair Windows 7 Black Screen of Death":

    They, also, have some other options there, too.
    Google search and you will find a lot of the "Windows Black Screen of Death with cursor" fixes.
