Windows 10: How to force an older driver over an inbox driver in Windows 10

I'm posting here to this forum the same question as in the new WindowsQ forum.
I'm wondering if there is a solution to that problem I have with wake-on-LAN

The NIC is Intel 82579LM and the PC is Lenovo ThinkCentre M82
OS is Windows 10 20H2 (2009) 19042.630

The wake-on-lan feature of the built-in inbox driver for that NIC does not work.
An older version from Intel works just fine.
The problem is that I can't force that older driver to install.

I import the old driver in MDT but is ignored during the imaging process.
I have tried to uninstall the inbox driver and tried to install the older driver manually without success.
The inbox driver is reinstalled each time I try.

I tried removing the inbox driver with the admin's toolkit Driver Store Explorer (Rapr.exe) but again without success.

I downloaded the latest driver from the Intel web site and it's the same version as the inbox driver which WOL does not work (e1i65x64.sys version 12.17.10.8). The only driver for that card that works with WOL is from Lenovo web site and is older than the inbox one (e1c65x64.sys version 12.15.31.4). That driver is also available from Intel's archived web site.

When uninstalling and do a reboot or rescan for hardware changes in order to have the network card reappear in device manager to be able to install the old driver then the inbox driver reinstall automatically. If I try to install over the inbox driver I get a message that tells me that the most appropriate driver is already installed.

I even tried to uninstall the inbox driver with "pnputil /Delete-driver oemXX.inf /uninstall /force" to get rid of the inbox driver. Then try to pre-install the old driver with "pnputil /add-driver e1c65x64.inf /install"
But as soon as the device is detected the inbox driver reappears and reinstalled.

I think the solution would be to have a way to change the ranking of the detection in order to have the older driver have priority over the newer one but don't know how, assuming that's possible.

Hey Dj Urko, I am trying to install the realtek driver and I get the error 0x0001. I have disabled secure boot and Driver signature. I have the latest win 10 build. What am I doing wrong? Can u post the complete list of steps that I have to take? I have an asus z170 with alc1150.

How to force Windows 10 to use older driver for keyboard?

Hello,

My keyboard is malfunctionning on Windows 10, 1803 for many games due to driver compatibility issues, the last working driver for me is that of Windows 10,1703 (Driver version 10.0.15063.0)

I tried to uninstall the keyboard driver and install the older version but the OS always reinstalls the newer one and never install the older driver.

Is there any way to force Windows 10,1803 to install and use the keyboard driver of Windows 10,1703 ? The only way I do to play on my PC is retrograding to Windows 10, 1703 to avoid uncompatibility, now I am again on Windows 10, 1703 and I will upgrade if I
find a solution.
