How to force higher resolution on display?

Hi all,I have a Dell laptop with a i7-8650U CPU, which means it comes with Intel's UHD 620 graphics, which, according to the specs in Dell's User Manual, will support up to 4096 x 2304 @ 60 Hz over an HDMI 2.0 interface.I also have a 30-inch monitor which is capable of 2560 x 1600 @ 60 Hz connected to the laptop's HDMI port. Should be a piece of cake to get that resolution, right? So how come, when I'm using Windows 11's Settings>System>Display>Display Resolution menu, the highest resolution available to be chosen is "1920 x 1200 recommended"? How do I tell Windows that a higher re

Won't set to a higher resolution

OK, on your new system is the correct Display driver loaded, go to Control Panel - Device Manager and make sure that you are not running the Microsoft Basic Display Driver.

If the correct Display Driver is loaded, right click your Desktop, choose Display Settings and see if your resolution is set to the one marked (recommended)

If your resolution is set to the one marked (recommended), then I have some questions:

    • Does your new Computer GPU support higher resolutions
    • What size is the monitor you are using
    • In the control panel of your GPU can you choose to set a custom resolution

    Increase Screen Display Resolution

Paul, It's your display card driver that determines what resolutions you can use & hence which resolutions that list offers you. - If you are not offered higher resolutions then I think it can only mean that your display card & its driver are not capable of any more. - It's possible that you might be offered a higher resolution for an external monitor than for the normal one. I think I've seen that once. Sorry, Denis

How to force higher resolution on display?

Windows 10 - Force higher external screen resolution - LG HDTV shown as non PnP monitor

How can I force the higher external screen resolution on Windows 10 (64-bit).

    Configuration:

    • Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop with Intel 945GM chipset, with VGA (D-Sub 15-pin connector) video output and correct 945GM graphics drivers installed
    • Adapter VGA->HDMI (tried 2 types)
    • LG 24" HDTV (1366x768) detected as non PnP Monitor

The windows allow only to set 800x600 or 1024x768 screen resolution (laptop screen resolution is 1280x800 so it is still higher than allowed on the external display). From what I remember the laptop is able to display at least 1920x1200 on external TV/Monitor.
Unfortunately there is no option in Windows 10 settings to go above 1024x768. In previous Windows versions there was quite easy to add or force higher screen resolutions but on windows 10 (with latest updates as per Nov 2019) it seems not that easy. I have tried to add the resolution, reinstall graphics and monitor drivers with no success.

I know it is an old laptop but it is capable of display 1366x768 resolution easily.

Can anyone help with the solution how to set the screen resolution preferably to 1366x768, please?
