Windows 10: How to force Microsoft Pinyin to lock Chinese input mode?

This has been a problem for a long, long time. Like this: How to make the Microsoft Pinyin really default to Chinese 5 years ago!


I have tow keyboard:




I have completed the following setup:

1. Microsoft Pinyin Settings: Genneral->Default mode->Choose IME default mode: Chinese

I can reproduce the BUG by following these steps:

1. Open Visual Studio Code, and open a english document, switch to Microsoft Pinyin and chiness mode:
2. Open Chrome or any other application, switch to Microsoft Pinyin and chiness:
3. In Chrome window, switch keybord to US keybord:
4. Then, switch keybord again, to Microsoft Pinyin:
5. So far, can't see any problems, chrome's window remembers the Microsoft Pinyin last patternChinese. But now, switching to the step 1 windowVisual Studio Code: , the input mode changed to English mode!

I don't think it's a feature, because the problem only occurs when switching keyboards in non-vscode windows! If you switching keybords in vscode window, you'll notice that the input mode in the vscode window is still Chinese.


It's very annoying because in my workflow it often happens that every few minutes the Chinese I'm trying to type doesn't appear! Microsoft switched my input mode from Chinese to English without permission!

Chinese Pinyin input

Yes, you may use Microsoft Pinyin (keyboard) for both Simplified and Traditional Chinese input. Here's
how you can switch between Simplified and Traditional Chinese input when using Microsoft Pinyin (keyboard):

1. Go to Settings > Time & Language >
   Region & language.
2. Under Languages, select Chinese (Simplified). If you have not installed it yet, click on
   Add a language and search for Chinese (Simplified).
3. Click Options and choose Microsoft Pinyin under
   Keyboards.
4. Click Options > Keys > Hot keys.
5. Under the Simplified/Traditional Chinese input switch option, turn it
   On.
