  1. How to force Outlook to open an email in Chrome under Windows 10 when using the 'View in...

Note: major dependency for this technique to work is that you will need to have theIE Tab extension installed in Chrome. Currently I'm running Chrome 81.0.4044.129 64bit and IE Tab 13.1.7.1

Problem: In Windows 10 v 1909 the default app and default file type settings page will only show Edge or IE as a possible application choices if you try to change the association of .mht or .mhtlm file type Outlook email file types.
Even if you have Chrome as your default browser both in Chrome itself and in Windows 10, when an email doesn't display in the viewing pane properly and you choose the option of 'View in Browser' you will most likely open an instance of Edge or IE where the email will be properly displayed.

-The only fix that I came up with to get Chrome assuredly associated with an .mht or .mhtml and to open when choosing 'View in Browser' in Outlook is the following:

-First let the email open in Edge it should display and be a readable version of the email and notice the file path in the address bar. It will be long and be something similar to this form:

    C:/Users/<your-username>/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Windows/INetCache/Temporary%20Internet%20Files/Content.Outlook/CDF32O5L/email.mht
That file, email.mht, is a temporary copy of the email that Windows 10 has generated from the original Outlook file.

-Next, browse to that location and find the file email.mht.

-Next, right click on the file and choose 'Open With' from the drop-down list. In the 'How do you want to open this file' dialog box, there will may a few application icons shown but most likely Chrome will NOT be there, so you need to click on 'More apps' which will display more application icons but NOT Chrome, so scroll down the bottom of the list and click 'Choose for another app on this PC'. Make sure that the box next to 'Always use this app to open .mht file' is checked.

-Next, navigate to your executable location probably C:\Program Files x86\Google\Chrome\Application\ and choose Chrome.exe to set the association.

Now Chrome should open up when you click on the 'View in web browser' option in an email in Outlook.

Here's the dependency of the IE Tab extension: if you don't have IT Tab extension installed on your Chrome, when Chrome opens up a new tab it will just show a page of .mth mark-up code, not a readable email.

-So, the last thing you have to add to Chrome if you don't have it already is theIE Tab extension which will is a IE Edge page emulator and which after installing it will appear in the right side of your Chrome address bar. When the .mth mark-up code page appears you then click on the IE Tab icon and Chrome will display the page just like Edge or IE does.

Search for the latest version of IE Tab and add it to your Chrome extensions.

    :)

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

Windows 10 - Outlook Hyperlinks and PDFs Opening in Edge Not Chrome

I want to once again use Chrome for URLs and Adobe Reader for PDFs, but lost this after a Windows 10 auto-update.

I now too have the situation where PDFs in emails I receive in Outlook (2010) open in Edge, and when I attach a PDF to an Outlook email it shows as an Edge doc. Also, URLs in Outlook Emails open in Edge. PDFs and URLs other than in Outlook open with my
    preferences.

I've reset all the defaults I can find to associate PDFs with Adobe Reader and URLs to Chrome. Also tried the suggested regedit change. Didn't help at all.

My Set Default Programs don't show Microsoft Outlook, just:

    • Microsoft account
    • Microsoft Edge
    • Microsoft family restrictions
    • Microsoft Solitaire Collection
Control Panel shows I have both Microsoft Office Click-to-Run 2010 (which includes Visio) and Microsoft Office Home and Business 2010 - English (which includes Outlook, Word, Excel, and Powerpoint).
