How to fully restore Power Slider and Battery Saver functionalities

    Greetings,

While I was playing around with the pwcfg command to enable hibernation, I noticed that I've lost thePower Slider option see the screenshot below plus, when in battery mode, I can nowenable/disable the Battery Saver ONLY from the main Windows Settings and no longer from the icon in the system tray as I was used to there's the option but clicking on it has no effect.

I've tried all sorts of things to restore the Power Slider and the ability to select the Battery Saver option from the system tray but unsuccessfully. The following is a list of stray points I put to test:

    • Installing the latest updates from Windows and from Dell webpage
    • Uninstalling/reinstalling the battery drivers from the Device Manager
    • Running the Windows Troubleshooter
    • Resetting the Power Plans options
    • Removing/restoring the Power Plans specifically the Balanced Plan

    My system is a Dell XPS 15 9560 with Windows 10 Pro 2004 19041.329.

Does anyone have any heads-up on how to proceed?

    Thanks in advance,

    Ugo

    :)

    Battery Slider vs Power Options

What bearing if any does the slider have on the power options (from control panel)
I slid it to better battery but the power plan was still set to balanced?

    Are they completely independent?

I needed to leave my laptop on over night and the fan kept starting up (not sure why, it was only downloading some files). I set it to better battery assuming this would limit the cpu so it wouldn't get so hot, it didn't. Changed my power plan to power saver and changed max state to 60% and it was fine....

    Slider seems to do nothing.

  3. Battery Won't Charge Fully

Make sure to install all Windows important updates.

Install latest versions of your laptop device drivers you can download the latest device drivers from the device manufacturer or from your laptop manufacturer website.

    Step 1

    1. Shutdown your laptop.

    2. Remove the battery.

    3. Connect the AC power adapter to your laptop.

    4. Power on the laptop

    5. Open the Device Manager by typing Devmgmt.msc into Start Menu or from Control Panel.

    6. Under the Batteries category, right-click all of the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listings, and select Uninstall (it’s ok if you only have 1).

    7. Shutdown the laptop.

    8. Insert the battery.

    9. Power on the laptop.

If above suggestions wont resolve the battery charge issue then follow below steps.

    Step 2

    1. Shutdown the laptop.

    2. Remove the battery.

    3. Start the laptop with only AC adapter connected to laptop.

    4. When you login to Windows OS connect the battery while Windows OS working.

    Step 3

Reset the System Management Controller. Use one of these methods to reset the SMC, which controls battery management, battery status light.

    1. Shut down the computer and disconnect the power cord.

    2. Remove the battery.

    3. Press and hold the power button for ten seconds.

    4. Reattach the battery and AC power adapter, then start up the laptop.

Hopefully one of the above suggestions will help you resolve the battery not charging problem. If battery still doesn't charge, you may need to replace your battery.
