Laptop monitor not going to 120hz

    Hi Jake,

Sorry to hear that the initial steps didn't resolve the issue. Let's try some additional troubleshooting steps to get your laptop monitor to switch to 120Hz.

    Additional Troubleshooting Steps

Step 3: Check Display Cable and Port

    Ensure Proper Connection:

Make sure the display port cable is securely connected to both your laptop and the monitor.

If possible, try using a different display port cable to rule out any issues with the cable.

    Verify Display Port Version:

Ensure that both your laptop and the monitor support the same version of DisplayPort (e.g., DisplayPort 1.2 or 1.4).

Step 4: NVIDIA Control Panel Settings

    Open NVIDIA Control Panel:

Right-click on the desktop and select NVIDIA Control Panel.

    Adjust Resolution:

Go to Display > Change resolution.

Ensure your monitor is selected and then select Customize.

Check Enable resolutions not exposed by the display.

    Click on Create Custom Resolution.

Set the refresh rate to 120Hz and click Test.

    Adjust Refresh Rate:

Go to Display > Set up G-SYNC.

Ensure G-SYNC is enabled for your monitor.

Go back to Change resolution and set the refresh rate to 120Hz.

    Step 5: BIOS/UEFI Settings

    Check BIOS/UEFI Settings:

Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing F2, Del, or Esc during boot).

Look for any display or graphics settings and ensure that the integrated graphics is set to auto or enabled.

Save and exit the BIOS/UEFI settings.

    Step 6: Windows Display Settings

    Adjust Scaling Settings:

Go to Settings > System > Display.

Scroll down to Scale and layout and ensure the scaling is set to 100%.

Click on Advanced scaling settings and turn off Let Windows try to fix apps so they're not blurry.

    Set Refresh Rate in Settings:

Go to Settings > System > Display.

    Click on Advanced display settings.

Select your monitor and set the refresh rate to 120Hz.

    Click Apply.

Step 7: Use Intel Graphics Command Center

    Open Intel Graphics Command Center:

Download and install the Intel Graphics Command Center.

    Adjust Display Settings:

Open the Intel Graphics Command Center.

Go to Display and select your monitor.

Set the refresh rate to 120Hz.

Step 8: Check for Firmware Updates

    Update Monitor Firmware:

Check if there are any firmware updates available for your monitor. Visit the manufacturer's website for instructions on how to update the firmware.

Step 9: Check for Windows Updates

Ensure Windows is Up to Date:

Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.

Click on Check for updates and install any available updates.

Restart your PC if any updates were installed.

    Step 10: Contact Support

    Contact ASUS Support:

If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it may be a hardware or compatibility problem. Contact ASUS Support for further assistance.

Please try these additional steps one at a time and let me know if any of them resolve the issue. If the problem persists, we can explore further solutions together.

    Best regards,

    .

Laptop monitor not going to 120hz

hanks for the detailed information, Jake. Let's try a few more steps to resolve the issue with your refresh rate.

Step-by-Step Troubleshooting for Refresh Rate Issue

    Revert to Previous Driver Version:

Sometimes the latest drivers can cause issues. Let's try rolling back to the previous driver version that worked.

    Open Device Manager.

Expand Display adapters, right-click on your NVIDIA graphics card, and select Properties.

Go to the Driver tab and click on Roll Back Driver. Follow the prompts to complete the rollback.

    Clean Install of NVIDIA Drivers:

If rolling back doesn't help, let's try a clean installation of the NVIDIA drivers.

Download the NVIDIA DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller).

Follow the instructions to completely uninstall the current NVIDIA drivers.

After uninstalling, go to the NVIDIA website and download the latest Game Ready driver.

During installation, select Custom (Advanced) and check the box for Perform a clean installation.

    Check Display Settings in Windows:

Right-click on your desktop and select Display settings.

Scroll down and click on Advanced display settings.

Select your monitor and click on Display adapter properties for Display 1 (or the relevant display number).

In the Monitor tab, set the Screen refresh rate to 120Hz and click Apply.

    BIOS and Firmware Update:

Ensure your laptop's BIOS and firmware are up to date. Visit the ASUS support page for your specific model to download and install any updates.

    Check Monitor Settings:

Ensure that the monitor's settings are configured to allow 120Hz. Use the buttons on the monitor to navigate the on-screen menu and check the refresh rate settings.

    Test with a Different Cable:

Although you are using an INVANKY DisplayPort cable, sometimes cables can be the issue. Try a different cable if possible.

    NVIDIA Control Panel Custom Resolution:

    Open NVIDIA Control Panel.

Go to Change resolution under the Display section.

Click Customize, then Create Custom Resolution.

Set the resolution to 1920x1080 and the refresh rate to 120Hz.

Test and apply the custom resolution.

Please go through these steps and let me know if any of these resolve the issue. If the problem persists, we can explore additional solutions.

    Best regards,

How to get 120hz on 'PC' resolution settings

    90 and 120Hz settings missing.

    Hello,

Where did 1920x1080 120Hz display settings go and why cant I run at least 60hz?

Yesterday I did a restart and the computer did a windows update How to get 120hz on 'PC' resolution settings :( After the restart I played a game and after I exited the game it never returned to the desktop. A picture of the game and desktop showed on screen with flashing/stuttering/ frame tearing just chaos. There was no mouse cursor and the computer did not respond. I pushed the soft restart button on the computer and rebooted. after the boot process it skipped over the windows login screen and showed the exact same chaos picture before the reboot. Once again the screen was locked and unresponsive. I couldnt believe it skipped over the login and went right back to the same stuck spot it was in. I held the power button in and did a hard reboot this time. The computer booted normally with the login screen but after login the screen flickered and the black desktop background now had snow randomly appearing and disappearing all over the black desktop. The flickering got to the point where it was only flickering on for a sec and mostly off which made it impossible to even click the restart icons. Once again I hard restarted and turned my second screen on this time. Once booted the second screen was fine while the main screen still doing the flickering and snow. I uninstalled and reinstalled amd display drivers and program and still have the same issues. I noticed putting my main screen to 30hz instead of 59 or 60hz got rid of the flickering and snow but I normally ran my screen at 120hz 1920x1080 resolution and I noticed 90 and 120Hz options are gone from the selection under Display settings>advanced display settings>Display adapter properties> list all modes. Running any other hz mode above 30hz is causing issues with my main screen.

I also tried deleting the updates from yesterday and it acts like it deletes them making you restart, but once rebooted they are still listed under the installed updates list.

Recent update name= Windows update KB5008876 and Security update KB5009543

    Main Screen= VIZIO - 55" Class OLED 4K UHD SmartCast TV Model:OLED55-H1 (120HZ)

    GPU= RX580

    Windows 10 Home

    Need anything else?

    Thank You for any assistance.
