  1. how to get into locked desktop with singular user and no reset disk

I haven't used my PC in several years and forgot my login information. I don't know what kind of windows is on it and I don't know the password to get in, I'm not even sure what email is associated with the account. when I select the forgot password option, it says the only option is a reset disk which I don't have. how can I get back in to the PC?

    :)

  2. Unable to create a reset passowrd wizard disk.

    Hi,

This issue may arise due to the corruptions in the USB drive and as an initial troubleshooting step, I suggest you to use a different USB drive and check if that helps to resolve the issue.

Also follow the below steps to create a password reset disk:

Please be informed that password reset disks apply to local user accounts. If your Windows 10 user account is connected to your Microsoft account, then you can follow the steps outlined here by Microsoft to begin the password
    reset process:
    https://account.live.com/ResetPassword.aspx

Now please refer to the below steps to create a Password recovery disk applicable for Local accounts.

    • Log in to your computer under the user account for which you wish to create a password reset disk. Once logged in, connect your USB flash drive to one of your computer’s USB ports.
    • Open the Start menu and type control panel
into the search. Open the Control Panel by clicking it in the list of search results.
    • In the Control Panel, ensure the View by drop-down at the upper right is set to
Category. Then click the User Accounts
link. On the screen that follows, click the User Accounts
link once more. Doing so will take you to your user account settings.
    • On the left side of the screen, click the link to Create a password reset disk. The password reset disk wizard will open in a new window.
    • In the first screen that opens, click the Next button. In the subsequent screen, select the USB flash drive that you connected to your computer earlier.
    • You’ll be asked to enter your password on the following screen; do so, then click the
Next button. The wizard will now create your password reset disk.
    • Ensure you keep your password reset disk in a safe place, as anyone with access to your computer can use it to reset the password for that user account.
Hope the information is helpful. If you need further assistance, feel free to write to us and we would be happy to help you.

    Thank You.

    Password Reset Disk isn't responding!

    Laura,

"Password reset disks are only valid for the user account they were made by, within the Windows installation & computer they were made in."

    • No matter what you do to mimic a user account it is not the same user account as the original.
    • If your brother cannot log in to the user account concerned then he cannot make a Password reset disk.
    • Only a Password reset disk that he made whilst logged in to the account can work.
    • Only local user accounts can make valid Password reset disks. Online accounts such as MSAccount-linked user accounts have their own password reset mechanisms as mentioned earlier.

1 If he already has another Admin-level user account on his computer then he can log in to that and use it to reset the password on the account in question [he cannot make an Admin account now because you have
to be logged in to an Admin account to do so] - Control panel, User accounts, Manage another account.

2 If he is locked out because he has forgotten the password & no other Admin-level account is available then the only remedy we are allowed to suggest in this forum is to reinstall Windows.

3 If he is locked out because of some technical defect with the account and there are no other Admin accounts on the computer then
there is a chance that Windows will initiate an automatic recovery mechanism that will help.

    • It all depends on just what the defect is - if Windows detects that his Admin account is not capable of functioning & that there are therefore no functioning Admin-level accounts left, it will enable a special Built-In Admin account that will be accessible
only at the Safe mode log in screen [and nowhere else].
    • In such a case, you can boot into Safe mode to see if a user with the username
Administrator is listed as available to log in to. The username Administrator
is the username for the Built-In Admin account [it has no password by default]. I no longer have any Windows 7 Safe mode notes but this Windows 10 procedure is probably more or less applicable -

If the Admin prompt has a greyed out or missing Yes button but no password entry box, use the Built-In Admin account in Safe mode to create two new Admin accounts - Forum article
    • In this forum, we are not allowed to suggest any means of artificially enabling the Built-In Admin account. If it does not appear in the Safe mode login screen then the only remedy we are allowed to suggest in this forum is to reinstall Windows.

how to get into locked desktop with singular user and no reset disk

Locked myself out of my desktop

    Hi

    Welcome to Microsoft community.

It appears that you've encountered a situation where your desktop has been locked remotely via the "Find My Device" feature on your Microsoft account. Unfortunately, since this is a security measure implemented by Microsoft to protect your device, resolving this issue might require a bit of effort. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you unlock your desktop:

    1. Sign In as Administrator:
      • You mentioned that you have a laptop as well. If you're signed in as an administrator on that laptop, you can use it to remotely unlock your desktop.
    2. Connect to the Internet:
      • Make sure both your locked desktop and the laptop you're using to unlock it are connected to the internet.
    3. Microsoft Account:
      • On your laptop, go to account.microsoft.com and sign in with the same Microsoft account that you used on the locked desktop.
    4. Find My Device:
      • Navigate to the "Find My Device" section, similar to what you did to lock the device.
    5. Unlock Your Desktop:
      • From the "Find My Device" settings, you should see your locked desktop listed.
      • There should be an option to unlock the device. Follow the instructions to unlock it.
    6. Reboot the Desktop:
      • After unlocking the desktop from the Microsoft account settings, reboot the desktop and try signing in.
    7. Re-Register the Desktop:
      • If you've removed your desktop from your devices list, you might need to re-register it after you regain access. You can do this from your Microsoft account settings.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any further updates, thanks.

    Best regards
