Windows 10: How to get Living Images to "play" again in PHOTOS with Windows 11 AND W10, the way they...

HELP! PHOTOS has stopped "playing" "Living Images".PHOTOS opens a Living Image _Moment file to only the STILL picture instead of the 1-second Living-Image.The files themselves have NOT been altered since before this problem. The living.mp4 files are still in all the JPG files Zips and sill work if extracted. There does not appear to be a file option to "open as living image" or "open as a still image". So, it's NOT the files. And this problem applies to ALL Living-Image JPG files on either PC. Also proving that it's NOT the files, PHOTOS behavior was different on two different PCs using

Living images in Windows 10 Photo App

Would love to know how to get WP8.1 living images to play in the W10 Photos app on PC. Don't suppose you got any further with this?

Oddly I did notice that at one point W10 photos PC seemed to be playing back WP8.1 living images when rich capture had been used but not when it hadn't. I now seem to have lost that as well though but I think could be to do with how I imported them (copying
all files at once vs just the jpgs first and then adding the thm/thl later).

Hopefully though the app will just be updated to make it work given they do play on W10 Mobile photos app...

Seems like it was maybe just an import problem. After clearing the folder and then copying all files (jpgs, thm, tnl) directly with explorer and only then running the W10 PC photo app it is now playing the WP8.1 living images as well as the W10mobile living
images. Happy days!

Only weirdness now seems to be when you do and don't get a living image with W10 mobile - not even all photos with 'LI' in the file name seem to end up with the living image. If it is meant to be because there was no motion then it doesn't seem to be very
consistent in when it triggers.

 

living images not working

Please verify these steps-

1. Have you set the 'living Image' option on the camera app to on?

2.Try capturing a living image and open it via the photos app and wait for a few seconds, does it play?

3.Try capturing a living image and open it via the photos app(On PC with windows 10) and wait for a few seconds, does it play?

4.Check if there are available app and system updates.

 

Living Images no longer working on Lumia 950

Same issue, but closer inspection seems to suggest that the camera indeed does capture the living stuff, since my camera puts a plethora of files onto my OneDrive (which is good), including JPGs, sometimes a short and long exposure Digital Negatives (DNG)
and the MP4.tmp or whatever it's called, which, on a PC, can be renamed and played (It is a legal 30 FPS MP4).

Photos app appears to realize these are Living Images, as the Share button offers to Share as Image or Video. OneDrive appears to realize it, as it uploads and downloads correctly, and appears to clean up after it if linked images are deleted (not thoroughly
tested).

They just won't PLAY.

I've been on other forums (Sorry, Microsoft, this is an open relationship) and they claim that ABSOLUTELY they play, on their W10 phones AND W10 desktops, apparently the Photos app on PC plays them.

In my experience, none do, neither PC nor Phone "Photos" play Living Images, nor have they ever, to the best of my knowledge.

PC : Photos 15.1208.10480.0 running on 10586.36 (Stock)

Phone: Photos 15.1208.10502.0 running on 10586.36 (Insider)

Both are aware that my images are living (judging by the Share behavior), neither play.

Phone is a 950XL, single sim unlocked (EU).
