Windows 10: How to get more storage on a chromebook

I got gifted a chromebook for my birthday last year, but it only has 30GB on it which is not a lot and it is full due to all the services that windows needs to run so I can’t download anything and trying to delete any downloads does nothing.. is there anyway to be able to purchase storage on here as it isn’t a desktop but a laptop? I’ve searched stuff up but I’m not too keen on the whole RGB thing as I’m not technical. Please let me know what I could do? Thank you.

Can i use windows on a chromebook?

External drives are listed as USB hard drives.

@ paulyjustin Under Storage Devices, it lists USB hard drives and thumb drives. USB hard drives are external drives; I don't think internal hard drives tend to be USB. Here's a copy of what I found at File types and external devices that work on Chromebooks - Chromebook Help

Filesystems
You can access files on external devices connected to your Chromebook if they use the following types of filesystems:

• FAT (FAT16, FAT32, exFAT)
• HFS+ (read-only on journaled HFS+)
• ISO9660 (read-only)
• MTP
• NTFS
• UDF (read-only)

Storage devices

• USB hard drives and thumb drives
• USB CD-ROM and DVD-ROM drives (read-only)

Remove a storage device safely by clicking Eject

Note that under file systems, your drive should be formatted as Fat 32 or NTFS; probably not something strictly Chrome if you want to continue using it with Windows. I'm pretty sure you don't want your stuff read only. From what I see, it doesn't look like a GPT/UEFI formatted drive will work with Chrome.

 

My wife’s new Chromebook froze up with recycled message stating to call bogus number. Tried.

This worked:

1. Sign out of your Chromebook.
   
2. Press and hold Ctrl + Alt + Shift + r.
   
3. Select Restart.
   
4. In the box that appears, select Powerwash
   
   Continue.
   
5. Follow the steps that appear and sign in with your Google Account.
   Note: The account you sign in with after you reset your Chromebook will be the owner account.
   
6. Once you've reset your Chromebook:
   
   • Follow the onscreen instructions to set up your Chromebook
     
   • Check if the problem is fixed
     

 

Chromebook killer?

No I didn't misunderstand I just wondered why Windows 10 was on a Chromebook. I looked at HP's site after and it seems they have a Chrome operating system.

The updates can be large and can require 20GB of free space to install. (depending on the update) So they are not designed for use on a device with a small amount of internal storage.

I wonder why manufacturers produce machines (if they are designed for Windows 10) with such a small amount of storage.

I believe there is an option for the large Feature updates to use extra USB storage but I've not heard of it using an SD card. Can you install the programs to the SD card.

I wouldn't imagine MS have any thoughts on Chromebook users as they are not designed for Windows 10.

Did your Chromebook come with Windows 10 (from HP) or Chrome OS.?
