Windows 10: how to get more than one instance of file explorer

    how to get more than one instance of file explorer


    I used to right-click File Explorer in the task bar and I'd get a new instance of File Explorer. Now, it shows me a list of folders. Left-click gives me an instance of File Explorer. If I left-click again it closes that instance. Then click it again, I get the one instance. and so on. I installed a new version of SNAGIT, but I can't say that it changed after that install.


    Here's what it shows when I right-click.

    That grey area next to the taskbar is impossible to read. It says Pinned at the top and then various folder below that. Wait, I know how to show it enlarged.

    new instances of file explorer have a copy of the current explorer settings not those from the quick launch icon

    Hello Stephen,

    The challenges that you are having with File explorer has somehow related to File Explorer settings. To easily fix this, we suggest that you reset File Explorer by:

    • Open File Explorer > Click on View
    • Select Options > Click Change folder and view options
    • Go to View and select Restore Defaults option.

    • Open File Explorer.
    • Access this link

      C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer
    • Delete all the files.
    • After deleting the files kindly try and see if there's a thumbnail preview of your files.

    • Click the Start Menu.
    • Right-click File Explorer.
