Windows 10: How to get my windows 11 to recognize my headset as a microphone and headphones.

Hey I just got a new windows 11 PC, and I have a wired headset with a mic. Whenever I plug it in a prompt comes up asking if it's a Mic or a headset, but there is no option for both. I've been looking things up, but the only solutions are for Bluetooth headsets. I've searched settings and everything and i can't figure out how to make my PC recognize my headset as an audio input and output at the same time. Please help I don't want to go buy an expensive Bluetooth headset or a Microphone.

Headphone Jack does not recognize headset microphone

Since a couple days the 3.5mm headphone jack of my computer does not recognize my headset microphone. When its plugged in the audio output works, but it says there is no microphone connected. It does recognize the headphones (audio output).

I already tried all of the following troubleshooting tips:

• The headset works on other devices (Laptop with Windows 11, PlayStation)
  
• Adjusting privacy settings.
  
• Enabling microphone in device manager (however this is not possible because it says its not connected)
  
• Reinstalling the device in control panel.
  
• Updating drives, windows etc.
  
• Other headsets also have the same problem on that port.
  

 

microphone is recognized as headphone when connected to headset 3.5mm port in the laptop

I have an ASUS k556U laptop with windows 11.

my microphone has a 3.5 mm jack when I connect it to my laptop it would be recognized as a headphone! the same is for the time when I connect my headset to laptop via headset port (for 3.5mm jack) it would be just recognized as a headphone and the microphone on the headset doesn't work!

although my laptop has an internal microphone, the quality of it is not that good so I'm willing to connect an external microphone but it doesn't work! (it used to work when I had windows 10 on my laptop)

 

Computer won't recognize headset microphone

This is what i see in device manager. Im not sure if the Speakers/Headphones (Realtek High Definition Audio) is the one your saying to disable, as that is what is default in playback devices in the sounds panel.

Setting Stereo Mix as the default recording device and disabling everything else still didnt get the mic working, even when the headset is plugged into the microphone only audio port or the mic + sound audio port.
