How to get our Win10 machines visible on local network??

    This is really annoying!!
When our machines were Win7, it was trivial to make the machines visible on our local network, and then share folders. Now that we both have Win10 machines, though, it seems to be almost impossible!!

I've followed all the varying instructions that I've found on the web, but *nothing* works, not even Microsoft's recommendations:
    > Workgroup name is set to our workgroup on all machines
    > 'Turn on network discovery' and 'Turn on file and printer sharing' are enabled on both private and public networks.
    > 'Turn off password protected sharing' is off on all machines
    > Internet access works fine
    > Both machines have wired connections, not WiFi
    > I tried disabling the Defender Firewall, that didn't help
    > 'Internet Connection Sharing' has both boxes checked
    > There are other things that I tried as well, including setting the network to private vs public

In spite of all this, I cannot even see my *own* machine in Explorer, under the network folder.

What do I need to do, to make our local network usable ???

    :)

Cannot access Win10 machine via local network

I am 'birthing' my first Win10 machine, OS V1809, and must have goofed something up...

All machines in my home belong to the same Workgroup and the users/passwords are consistent across all machines. From my Win7 desktop, I:
    • Can access my Win10 machine, via Explorer, using its IP address
    • Can ping the Win10 machine using both its name and IP address
    • Cannot access the Win10 machine, via Explorer, using its name

From the Win10 machine, I can see all other computers on the network and access all of them.

I do not believe that this is a firewall issue as the issue persists when the firewall is disabled. I do believe that network and file sharing is enabled (but, I could be wrong). The issue exists with both the Ethernet and WiFi connections, so it is probably not interface-specific.

Please suggest what I can do to resolve this issue. Thx.

  3. Local network SNAFU

The XP machines still do not show, and I cannot access the Win10 machine from them. Although the Win10 m/c shows in the network list I get a similar 'you do not have access permissions to this computer' message

How to get our Win10 machines visible on local network??

Win10 machine visible on network but cannot access shared folder from other devices

    Hi all

As above, I have a Win10 PC (Win10 Home v1703, build 15063.413) with a shared external drive containing 10TB of media.

Machine is ethernet wired to Linksys XAC1900 router/modem.

Many other devices on network include: 4 x iPads, 3 x Win PC's (various versions), WDTV Livehub, etc.

All access the shared drive, and have been doing so for 2 years.

The snag? I had to reset the router to factory default, and this of course botched everything on the Win10 machine. At first, it couldn't even be seen on the network by the others (which are all fine and see each other happliy).

After much trolling of forums over the last two days, I have managed to at least get it visible on the network (at least by the PC's, but still not the tablets or the WDTV). However, none of them can access the Win10 machine. After the "cannot connect" dialogue
box, ran the networking troubleshooter and got "file and print sharing resource is online Detected but isn't responding to connection attempts".

Furthermore it also states "the remote computer isn't responding to connections on Port 445...etc".

Checked via cmd and Port 445 is listening. Even created an incoming rule to ensure it's open.

    Network private

    Discovery enabled

File and printer sharing on (full permissions for Everyone)

    Password protection off

Cannot ping other machines but both can ping it

Pretty much at my wits end. Hoping someone can help me out here...
