  1. How to get rid of Invisible ''Empty Space'' Window/Panel on Laptop ?

So I've been having this for a while, and not just on this laptop, but others.

Basically, on the desktop/screen. There is a box that reaches about a third way into the screen from the right and around half way up. It's invisible and I cannot click on it or find it anywhere or the systerm/task manager. It's getting on my nerves because it's acting like a small dead space and anything that is in that area becomes nonfunctioning. I.E when browser is opened anything that is in that dead-space becomes unusable. I cannot drag any files over to that space on the desktop as it comes up with a ''no-entry'' sign. It doesn't seem to affect me when I'm playing games or nothing. Just when I'm doing general internet browsing.

I've tried everything from a clean boot to updating my drivers. I've scanned the PC and it's clean. What else shall I try?

    :)

  2. Display confusion

I have just upgraded my Lenovo W500 to windows 10. My laptop screen is 2 and external monitor is 3, and I have an "invisible" display that is display 1. Can someone tell me how I get rid of this "invisible " display 1 and revert to the laptop as screen
1 and ext monitor as display 2 ?

    windows.old folder can't be deleted

I use the disk clearnup to free about 15GB of space from my laptop. However, after it's done, I can't delete the folder itself. the folder is empty though I just hate to see it on the list, could someone tell me how to get rid of it?

How to get rid of Invisible ''Empty Space'' Window/Panel on Laptop ?

Try downloading Winlister, a small free program that may help you identify it if it is some sort of window.

Also try WinSpy++ which identifies windows in a different way.
(Just search, you'll find these easily)

    Another approach:
Does this appear if you do a clean boot?
If not, then enable startups one by one until it does appear, then you'll know what it's related to.

  9. I can't download anything on this laptop its not that I don't have permissions its just I'm dyslexic and the programs needs to be easy to understand and I'd have to go to my tutor and get her to help me understand it - which in turn would then mean they know something is up with the laptop and take it from me from me for like two weeks while they wipe it clean and give it back. I mean sure, but I need it for uni plus my stuff's all on here.

Clean reboot did clear it, but it comes back randomly. I have no clue what I'm opening that's causing it. But simply restarting the laptop seems to get rid of it for a while.

Does your Uni not have a computer centre, staffed with knowledgeable techie geeks and geekettes who you could go up to with your laptop and show them your problem?

You wouldn't have to let them take it away from you or anything, just give an opinion or explanation and hopefully help you to fix it there and then.

  11. They wouldn't know if a carrot was in front of their nose. They only specialise in Macs and course software and not really advanced hardware. I asked a techie about why my start tray was missing. Their response was, ''If you move you're mouse down to the bottom it should pop up.'' I laughed and the problem only that windows crashed. They seriously need to higher Windows staff lol. My uni is heaveily mac based, the recommended laptop is a macbook. My course are the only course that use Window's mainly because of render and RAM usage needed by our course. But then the staff only really know basics, and about the software we use.

Which Uni is that then? Macs have never figured as much as PCs in the UK academic establishments I've worked in. Since the big world out there uses 9 PCs for every Mac, that's the sort of ratio you find in the unis.

All in all, it sounds like a prank set on your machine by a fellow student who is more savvy than you are.
A Google search for this problem brings a multitude of problems - perhaps one fits your situation:

Let me google that for you

A smartphone picture is what would work if a Print Screen will not show. Low lighting also helps for a better picture. Before you upload, edit the photo and put a circle around the area that is in question.

Oh that problem. It goes along with a background process that has to have a window open but hidden if I recall. Been around since 98. Installers are notorious for this being coded in by the software writer.

I had forgotten about that, since it usually goes away after I did an install on Windows. Only once did I get it hung up after the install was finished and went away after trashing the installers and rebooting.
