Windows 10: How to get surround sound thru HDMI from Windows PC to AV receiver ?

I have a mini PC running Windows 11 with the HDMI connection to a Sony AV receiver to either a TV or projector.PC configuration shows only 2 channels.Tried all the suggsetions out there - latest drivers, etc.

Why won't Windows 11 output surround sound to AV Receiver?

Recently purchased a Surface Laptop Studio and can't get it to output any surround sound to my AV Receiver. I've tried connecting using the USB-C Travel Hub, USB-C to HDMI Adapter, even the Surface Dock 2, all to no avail. I've confirmed that the Surface's Sound Settings are configured correctly (Settings, System, Sound, Advanced, More sound settings, Playback, Configure, Properties). My receiver outputs 7.1 surround just fine with Windows 10 devices, XBox, etc. The receiver I am using is a Sony STR-DH770, and the HDMI format is set to Enhanced. Of course, I've searched online, but have yet to find a solution that works. Anyone have any experience with this and encounter a fix?

Send sound to AV receiver but have only 1 monitor in Windows

I have a very complicated problem that I hope you can help me with.

I have the following setup:

• PC with:
  
  • DVI out to primary monitor
    
  • HDMI out to AV-receiver, which then goes to TV and 5.1 sound system
    

I want my sound to play on the AV-receiver. To do this, I have to "Extend" or "Duplicate" my desktop to the AV-receiver (i.e. the TV). If I do not do this, the sound also doesn't go to the AV-receiver.
However:

• Extending desktop is a problem, because my TV is not always on, and windows will still randomly move to this 2nd monitor (I can get them back with Windows + Shift + L_ARROW but this is not ideal...)
  
• Duplicating desktop is a problem, because my TV is 16:9 and my PC monitor is 21:9
  

So what I need is a solution that allows me to still send the sound through HDMI to my AV-receiver, but have only 1 desktop on my monitor (not on my TV). Obviously, the option to extend to my TV should still be available, should I want to watch a movie on my TV.

I hope my question is clear, and I hope someone knows a solution. I don't mind a solution that uses 3rd party software.

 

Problem outputting 5.1 surround sound from PC via HDMI

I am running an HDMI cable from an HP PC to a 5.1 home theater system. Specifically the HDMI goes from the PC to a TV, then another HDMI goes from the TV into the 5.1 receiver. The non-PC portion of the setup works fine - the TV outputs 5.1 sound just fine
when it's getting input from an X-Box, but not when it's getting input from the PC.

Instead, Windows is only outputting stereo sound.

Several posts on this forum and YouTube videos suggest trying to fix this problem by reinstalling RealTek HD Audio Manager. That didn't do it. The RealTek HD Audio Manager app only gives "Stereo" for a Speaker Configuration option. Going into the Playback
tab of the Sound control panel, I am able to see Stereo and a "Dolby Atmos for home theater" option, but selecting the latter does not actually result in any surround sound - it's still stereo.
