Windows 10: How to get the Windows 10 Anniversary Update

Download, mounted ISO and did in-place upgrade. Took bit more than an hour but succeeded w/o any hitches. Now personalizing.

 

The MCTool will auto detect the 32bit or 64bit OS you are running before seeing anything downloaded when leaving the "use recommended" box checked off. The build number for the general update itself is 14393.10 replacing the last Insider build 14393.5 proceeded a day earlier by the 14393.0 or 14393.

The mounted iso upgrade install went just as smooth on physical as it had when tried previously on VM tests.





If you happen to already be running a late Insider build you may not even see the 14393.10 even arrive by way of the WU as the second testing build still hasn't to replace the 14393.5 on there at the moment. The other desktop and three laptops will be coming along later to see the TH2 replaced by RS1.

You will want to use that edition MCTool being the second button outlined on the page there. In a moment the translation but first in that language for verification.

And now for the English translation familiar to most here but for the Windows 10 N not plain ole 10.

The first few options you will need to pass through after selecting release and language you skip past unless wanting the instant but problematic immediate online upgrade, can be a problem for some at times, the usb media with a 4gb or larger flash drive and even over 5gb for dual iso images due to 5.5gb in size at times, Or the last being the option to save the "windows.iso" to a folder on a separate drive or partition. Initially as many do I saved the iso for each build when available as well as saw the media created or updated.

For solving stubborn update by upgrade you can try mounting the saved iso as illustrated back in Post #16 to save time and fuss at wondering. The new update/upgrade splash screen is now a solid typical MS deep blue/purple color rather then the time piece style on black the previous builds and TH2 update saw with the large percentage count in the center. The upgrade will take about an hour as all previous builds have been seeing.

 

Thank you so much for the extensive info. I am indeed planning to do a clean install of Windows 10, not an immediate upgrade. I have activated Windows 10 in the past but reverted to Windows 8.1 because it wasn't stable back then.

So if I understand correctly, the Media Creation Tool that is in my link will download the latest Windows 10 version with the Anniversary Update and will copy that to my USB if I select it to do that, correct?

 

The Redstone 1 Anniversary update is what you will now be downloading since MS updated the Media Creation Tool only today for the general release. Build number for verification is 14393.10 which is manually going over the Insider 14393.5 build as we speak on a second machine just having tended to the main build here when neither would have likely seen the update arrive. From those two I now will be planning the manual upgrade to update on another desktop running the Threshold 2 update updated to 10585.494 just seen lately along with three laptops to boot! Expect to busy for a day or so! *Eek*chuckle

 

It seems that MS has changed the direct ISO download page (the "TechBench" one is no longer active as such); here you can now get the 1607 Build 14393.0 ISOs (including an install.wim)

If I'm correct, there's a 2nd large update coming in the fall for WIndows 10? (Redstone or Threshold 2?)

 

That will show "Win10_1607_English_X64.iso" for the US download after selecting edition 10 not 10N or 10KN as well as the language and kernel(32bit or 64bit flavor of download) which comes as no surprise at seeing since this was previously seen for the 10240 10 launch last year as well as for the Threshold 2 update in November being a general not Insider Preview type release.

 

What's the longest one has had to wait for an upgrade like this if that one just waits for it to automatically download? Did I read correctly somewhere that it has been known to take over six months in some cases?

That link puts one onto a ISO file which is ok for those who know how to use it. For those of us who do not, it's not ok. Permit me to ask the question again, how long has one to wait before the automatic update kicks in. Is it true one could wait up to six months or more?

 

That has been pushed back from memory till summer next year.

 

I updated to this new build and, I DO NOT LIKE THE MAIN MENU.
my computer is slow, I keep getting requests to update a MS account I have NEVER used on this machine and,
It took me 45 seconds to empty the recycle bin with 120kb in it.. *Mad Not happy JAN.

Hi there

Before I got the download automatically I tried the upgrade assistant on another computer -- used the Manual method as per Brink's tutorial.

seems to work fine - and it's the correct edition.
