  1. How to have widgets/icons/interactive wallpaper to show live system specs on the desktop?

Remember widgets in Windows 7? I also have Wallpaper Engine (not a fan). I want anything that will stick on the desktop and show live system performance all the time (like CPU/GPU usage, frames' temps, etc.

I've seen people with an interactive wallpaper that shows those specs (looks really nice). And I've also seen people with always-on icons on the desktop (like widgets). Whatever the method is, I'll use it as long as it is safe.

Any idea how to permanently stick that live info on the desktop on W10?

  2. Remove Linux Desktop Icons

I am not sure whether this will work (Ubuntu does not have icons like that on the desktop by default), but I suggest opening the trash bin and sweeping the icons into the window showing the trash bin.

How to set a website with live information as desktop wallpaper

Here is a great map of the Earth showing live information about winds and temperature.

Is it possible to set this as a desktop background with automatic updating every few hours (the map itself updates every three hours)?

This question is similar in spirit: How can I set the live video feed from the ISS as my desktop background?.

I am using Windows 10 and Ubuntu, but I'll keep the question more general.

    EDIT:

The program WallpaperWebPage has the right idea, but with the following limitations:

    • it covers desktop icons
    • it is interactive (so when you click on the desktop it behaves like a browser)
    • it only covers the desktop and can be minimised
    • the map needs a modern browser and this basically runs an old version of IE in full screen mode

Windows 10 system icons not showing.

    Hi,

The concern you have encountered with system icons may be due to a corrupted file or a misconfigured setting. In this case, we suggest that you go through the taskbar settings by simply followwing the steps below and see if it helps.

    • Right-click on an empty space in your desktop taskbar and select Taskbar settings.
    • Click Turn system icons on or off.
    • If you'd like to always show all icons, turn the slider window to On.
    • Reboot the PC for the changes to take effect.

If the solution did not work, we suggest running System file check. By doing so, the task will scan for changed or misplaced files. If sfc discovers that a protected file has been overwritten or corrupted, it retrieves the correct version of the file folder,
and then replaces the incorrect file. Kindly follow the steps provided by
    ZigZag3143 (MS -MVP)
    on this

    to perform the task.

If you require any further information, feel free to let us know.

    Regards
