  1. How to hide the Windows Location is in Use in the system tray?

Hey!On my laptop a "Windows Location" has started appearing in the system tray occasionaly and when it does it doesn't go to the overflow and instead shifts all my apps forward and make me mis-click! Anyway to change this? I don't want it at all... Any registry tweaks or powershell scripts to remove it? I want to get rid of it permenantely from ever appearing? I 've found previous questions but didn't seem to reach any logical and realistic conclusion? It doesn't permenantelty appear, just occasionaly when apps use my location...Thanks for any help!

    :)

  2. Hide an icon in the tray menu

I see. So are you wanting to uninstall it in the old Control Panel? What are you referring to using there exactly?

Did you try the repairs I suggested to try to fix whatever is causing the crash after hiding the icon? That should not be happening and can mean other corruption in the system, hence the reason I gave System File Checker repair.

Is the app showing up at any of the Startup locations in Step 4 of this performance checklist? https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/for.... One way to make it go away is to turn it off at Startup. Most items in System Tray are in one of those startup lists.

I hope it helps. Keep me posted on your progress as I will be here to help until the case is resolved.

  4. How to hide the Windows Location is in Use in the system tray?

Hide an icon in the tray menu

Hello, TS. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, here to help you.

You do not need to use the old Control Panel which is being phased out, the proper place to remove the System Tray icon is in Windows Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Notification area > Choose which icons appear on taskbar to turn it off.

System Tray icons may also be corrupted and can be sorted out here: https://winaero.com/blog/fix-notification-area-...

If this is the Setting you say is crashing then we need to fix this, we don't just run away from problems like this which mean major corruption, we fix them here. Run System File Checker and DISM from Step 10 in this checklist:

    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

You can also turn off the app at Startup which will remove it from the list, from one of the four locations where Startups are controlled which is covered in Step 4 of the same checklist above.

Based on the answers you post back I may have other suggestions.
