Windows 10: How to I erase all traces of a bad driver

We have a document scanner that was attached to a new Windows 10 PC BEFORE the manufacturer's drivers were installed. We have yet to capture a single scan. It stops midway through and after a long time of waiting, an error message appears saying the connection has been lost. We installed the scanner on another Windows 10 PC (the correct way, installing the manufacturer's driver first before attaching the scanner) and it seems to work just fine. My theory is that by connecting the scanner to the PC BEFORE installing the manufacturer's drivers, Windows recognized the device and attempted to install an incompatible driver first, and now, the scanner will not behave properly. If this is the case, how do I go about removing all traces of this device and it's drivers, so that I can start the install from scratch? I have already tried removing the driver through the device manager, and reinstall it the proper way, but to no avail. If you have other ideas about what might be happening, please share. I have tried getting support from the scanner's manufacturer, but after very little troubleshooting, their solution was to send a replacement scanner. As I have swapped the current one for another already with no success, I am doubtful this will be the solution. Thanks, in advance, for any help you can provide.

My partner logged into my local user account on my machine, and signed into a Halo/XBOX account. Windows 10 promptly decided that his Microsoft account must be mine, and linked it to my user. I changed the login to local, but it sounds like the Microsoft
account will still be linked to my local user and I may be required to enter that same account information for specific apps and tools.

Is there any way to completely remove the remnants of that link from my machine? I do not want to have anything associated with it - particularly since that Microsoft/Halo account is actually for managing a community and contains shared information.

On a side note, this kind of experience is extremely upsetting, and one that seems to reflect a trend in Microsoft products where they try to "trick" the user into doing things the way Microsoft wants them to (e.g. tricking them into adding a Microsoft account
even after the user has specified they want their account to be local only, tricking them into upgrading to Windows 10 even after the user has specified they do not want the upgrade, etc). This is one reason why I will be switching to Linux or Mac after more
than 30 years as a Microsoft PC user.

pnputil is valid in Win 10 from a command prompt.
pnputil /?
gives all the options.

- current description of removal via the device manager- refers to the check box to delete driver.

 

What is the make and model# of the scanner?
You can use this 3rd party program to remove the driver. Guru3D - Driver Sweeper go to the scanner manufacturers support download drivers site and see if they have a Windows 10 driver/

 

It is an Ambir PS667-3.

Unless I'm missing something, the software you are suggesting appears to only be for display, sound, and mouse drivers.

 

After removing the driver, remove the USB cable from the computer end and restart the computer.
Then download and install the driver PSX667ix-AS from their web site All Drivers During the install it should tell you when to plug in the USB cable. If not, plug in the USB cable after installation, it should automatically find the installed driver. If you get a Yellow flag in the Device Manager, right click it and choose Update Driver, Browse it to the downloaded driver file.
