How to increase the System Reserved Partition size

No offense topguntcp but that method seems way to difficult AND time consuming too!! Using MiniTool I could have done all of what you did in maybe 10 sec's or less. If a user had difficulty using MiniTool to change partitions, using Macrium Reflect to change partitions seems to be MUCH more difficult then MiniTool. I was just trying to give him an EASY way to re-size his partitons. Not make it more harder to do. *Smile

You make a good point about your system reserved partition, needing to be increased or not. I never use windows backup, don't trust it myself, that's why I use Macrium for image backups. You could turn off Windows Backup and just use a program like Macrium Reflect for your backups, and not change any of your partitions. Just a thought.....*Smile

No offense taken. However, if you read the post, OP did not want to use Mini Tool for one thing. 2nd, the procedure I posted is straight forward if you follow the steps, you may be overwhelmed with the screen shots but actually it is very simple and only requires a few clicks. So what is too difficult about it ??? Time consuming about a few clicks ?

FYI, I also use a Professional portable version of Mini Tool. I just don't want to install anything that I rarely use. If a person has a bad experience about it then I just provide the alternative which they feel comfortable with.

BTW, did you try what I suggested before making a statement: too difficult and time comsuming ?

    @Sam,
The reserved partition should not have any letter assigned and hidden. Just open Disk Management and remove the letter.

As topgundcp, a data partition is probably a good idea to store your data on, and make the system partition smaller. Then, to me, it seems like it would be the data partition you would want to back up. It easy (maybe time consuming) to restore the OS from install media, especially with Microsoft's new hardware activation scheme, you don't even have to keep track of your Windows product key. But the data is not so easy to restore and much more concern if lost.

I respect your suggestion of Mini Tool. May be I have done something wrong earlier. I will certainly try again because I do not want to blame a software for my mistakes. If everything goes right now then it mean that I may have done something wrong earlier.

I will give a try to Macrium to a different PC. Your screenshots are very clear and after practically doing it, I will see whether I can move to next screenshot or get confused at any time. Thanks again to you and OldMike65.

I installed Macrium free on my Windows 10 Hard disk. While creating rescue media it is showing Win PE 5.0 i.e for Windows 8 and not showing Win PE 10.0 but on Macrium Site they are showing Win 10.0 PE also and some where mentioning that on Win XP this PE 10.0 is not available but mine is Windows 10.

Edit: Just to remind that mine is dual booted PC (XP and 10) but both are on different hard disk and I have installed Macrium on Windows 10 hard disk and also trying to create Rescue media from Macrium on Windows 10. I think this should not have any issue with not showing the option of Win 10 PE.

How to increase the System Reserved Partition size

Windows PE is a modified version of the Windows operating system that is designed to support installing Windows and troubleshooting and recovering an installation that can no longer boot. Third party software use this to add their own software to boot and run from RAM. This is what Macrium Rescue disk is built from.

When you create a Rescue Disk. Depending on what OS you are using, You have the choice to select which kernel you want to use to boot from. On the first screen, if you click on Change PE version, you'd get the screen shot shown below and the explanation. Use PE5 so that you get full support for UEFI/Secure boot and it'll work with W8/8.1/10.

Dam it, I didn't know about those 3 choices!! I tried using the usb Macrium on my Windows 7 computer, and it was kinda messed up, couldn't read all the commands on the screen, or even be able to exit out after booting from the usb. This was the usb I had made for my Windows 10 Pro computer. Didn't know you had to make separate ones depending on the version of Windows installed. Guess I'm learning toooo. *Smile

There are different paid versions of Macrium: Home, Workstation, Server and Server plus with additional features added. You are using a free version of Macrium and that's all you get.

Anyway, here's a short video clip (1:06 min) on how to resize a partition instead of using screenshots from my previous post.
NOTE: In this example, I change the recovery partition from 450MB to 1000MB.

I think the problem is with Macrium because they are showing version 6.0.753 on their page but when you download it, the version downloaded is 6.0.553. I liked video tutorial.

Where did you download it from ? If you use this link: Macrium Reflect Free you'll get: ReflectDL.exe which is a Macrium download Agent. Double click to run and select the free version. You should get the latest.

However, if you've already downloaded version 6.0.553 and installed. Click on Other Tasks->Check for Updates...
you should get a patch to update to the latest.

All this - and it would be about 4 mouse clicks and maybe 5 minutes in MiniTool Partition Wizard to resize/move partitions....

I said way back on this tread it would have taken me maybe 10 sec's with MiniTool. Guess I was just a tad off......but the OP seems to be nervous about using MiniTool. *Smile
