    How to Initialize Newly Connected 2TB HDD?


    I connected a newly bought 2TB Seagate Barracuda HDD. It was a 2nd hand product. I already have an SSD, 4TB Seagate Barracuda. The 4TB uses GUID Partition System. I can see my 2TB HDD is showing as "Not Initialized". When I try to initialize it in GPT, it gives me an error "a Device Which Does Not Exist Was Specified". I tried command prompts to clean and convert it to GPT but to no avail. Out of curiosity, I tried MBR but still it gave me the same error. How do I solve this? The HDD worked fine on the guy's computer that I bought from. I am attaching a few health status captured on his comput

    I have a 2TB HDD with a prior installation of Windows 10 on it. Can I format this as a clean 2TB drive? And. Do I use NTFS to do so? Please explain

    Troy. I have Windows 10 installed on a newly purchased 2TB HDD. My prior installation (desktop got hosed) is on another 2TB HDD. If I have both connected, then bootup, what will happen?

    Hi WHATEVERGOES1,

    Yes you can reformat that as dedicated OS drive. And also can also use NTFS for that.

    I suggest to remove every HDD connected in your PC, just leave only the 2TB HDD you want to install windows to avoid confusion.

    Just reconnect them when you successfully installed your new Windows 10 OS.

    After that you can reformat the OLD 2TB HDD you want to format.

    Cloning from 1TB to 2TB hard drive

    Hello, Migrating a 1TB Hard Drive to a 2TB HDD is very possible.

    My Rig started out on just 160GB, when I upgraded HDDs, I cloned my 160 GB into a newly bought 500GB HDD. (it was an OS HDD)

    Then on the next HDD upgrade(I bought a 1 TB) I cloned that 500GB to a 1 TB HDD.

    No problems at all.

    From what I can remember the program I used was Acronis?? I forgot. But it ran the cloning process outside of windows. the cloning took like 30 to 1 hr. then I switched drive letters and the newly bought HDD is now my boot device.
