    How to install 20H2 when WU is having problems


    Six computers ranging from 10+ to 2 years old or so. One of the newer computer has now failed to install the October cumulative update multiple times a day for almost a month. No idea why. First major issue I can recall. Everything I have tried to fix these errors has not worked. Manual installation failed as well which is doubly concerning. WU is working to a point since Defender definition are updating. But other updates (.NET update) have failed.

    An in-place upgrade has been suggested to resolve the issue and since 20H2 is available.. My concern is will it even install? Normally I would do it via WU but it hasn't been offered and I am thinking because of the issue it may not as my other computers have been offered it. I will attempt to install it via MCT and USB. Any thoughts? Very concerned as to why I suddenly have an issue with this computer updating and if it can be resolved.

    Have New 20H2 Start (NOW)

    The 20H2 Start Menu can be 'released' from within 20H1.

    You will, still, do 20H2 via WU in October, BUT can have the new 20H2 Start Menu, now by doing the following:

    1. Open up Notepad.
    2. Paste the following text:

      Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

      [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FeatureManagement\Overrides\0\2093230218]

      "EnabledState"=dword:00000002

      "EnabledStateOptions"=dword:00000000

    3. Save the file as 'Start Menu.reg'.
    4. Run the file.
    5. Reboot

    Wu - 1909-2004-20h2

    I am at 1909 and my WU panel is now offering for me to download/install the 2004 update. I was wondering if I just waited on 20H2 to show up on my WU panel if I could just download/install 20H2 from there - and it would automatically include download/install of the 2004 (20H1?) update. Would that work?
    I do know that I need to do a system image backup prior to install.

    Currently I'm trying to install the 1803 version, since it's an old laptop.
