  1. How to install window 11 from Linux Debian 12

So I had previously installed Debian 12 and decided to re-install windows 11, the computer came with windows 10 before Debian. My problem comes when I insert the Bootable drive, I have 3 partitions EFI - 512 MbDisk - 237 GB - GPT formatLinux Swap- 977 MbWindows installation windows says that it needs to be NFTS. When using Disk Part it only shows EFI partition and Bootable drive not the other two. I "know" I shouldn't delete EFI, Linux Swap I think I should delete but the partition on GPT format I don't know how to format to NFTS. And I don't know if it better to fix while in the windows insta

  2. How to install window 11 from Linux Debian 12 *Fixed*

So I had previously installed Debian 12 and decided to re-install windows 11, the computer came with windows 10 before Debian.

My problem comes when I insert the Bootable drive, I have 3 partitions

    EFI - 512 Mb

    Disk - 237 GB - GPT format

    Linux Swap- 977 Mb

Windows installation windows says that it needs to be NFTS. When using Disk Part it only shows EFI partition and Bootable drive not the other two.

I "know" I shouldn't delete EFI, Linux Swap I think I should delete but the partition on GPT format I don't know how to format to NFTS. And I don't know if it better to fix while in the windows installation window or in Debian terminal.

    Installed Debian Linux -

Several months ago I installed Debian Linux on my Windows 10 computer with dual (multiple) boot. The systems were working well together where I could select and boot into either Debian or Windows from the Debian GRUB selection screen. In the past week, I updated Debian with the latest LTS version. I installed the latest version of Debian from on ISO on a bootable USB flash drive. When I did so, I deleted the previous Debian partitions that existed on a 2nd hard drive, where Debian had been installed, and installed the new version of Debian on the free space that resulted from deleting those partitions. The installation (reinstallation) of the new version of Debian generated a new GRUB installation (Grub Version 2.06-3). However, the installation of the new version of Debian and the associated GRUB did not pick up my Windows 10 system which is installed on separate hard drive. During start-up I went into the UEFI BIOS Utility and selected the hard drive that Windows 10 is installed on and then tried to boot, I got the GRUB rescue screen with two errors: "no such device" and "unknown file system". I realize this is probably because in installing the new version of Debian in the same space as the previous version, I likely broke the connection with the old GRUB bootloader.

I've looked at the file system on the hard drive where Windows 10 is installed and everything looks intact. Also, I've created a bootable Windows 10 installation/repair USB flash drive and through the command line, I've repaired Master Boot Record using BOOTREC/FIXMBR. Further, I've used the command line to find the hard drive where Windows 10 is installed (Disk 2) and then I've gone to the EFI directory on Disk 2 and found the following directories:

    -debian with the following files: shimx64.efi, grubx64.efi, mmx64.efi, fbx64.efi, bootx64.csv, grub.cfg

-BOOT with the following files: bootx64.efi, fbx64.efil, mmx64.efi

-Microsoft with subdirectory Boot with the following file: BCD

I am trying to get Windows 10 to boot again. But, so far, I have not been successful. Does anyone have ideas to how to get around the GRUB Bootloaders and to get Windows 10 to boot successfully again? Thank you

The Windows recovery option for fixing boot should work. Its that and/or selecting the right boot option to boot in the board's boot menu list of choices. I really don't know what else. You could try an in place upgrade of Windows which is simply booting the Window installer on usb and doing the non-destructive one. Or there might be something from command line.

At the worst just go into Debian and backup all your Windows files then install the OS clean. You should backup anyway since you have a boot issue and don't know how it will go in the final end.

If you're only getting grub then Windows boot menu was wiped out from an incorrect OS install or you're not booting the right choice.

I'd only recommend custom choices especially during Linux install with a pre-existing OS. You want to keep everything separated and specifically set away from the other installed OS. Automatic is too much for disaster.
