Windows 10: How To Keep Headings Collapsed in Word

I am have many problems with Word Office 365, specifically with the usage of headings to organize a document.I am setting up a document for planning my semester for teaching. Each unit has its own heading 3 units as of now, and within each unit, there are 15 lessons each with their own heading to expand/collapse. Each lesson has a table with several areas left blank to fill out. There are less than 5000 words in the entire document as it is just the template.I can open and close about a dozen headings upon every fresh start before Word starts to bug out and freeze. Collapsed Word headings - can I save them for next tine I edit doc?

I sometimes deal with large Word docs where it's convenient to collapse styles Heading 1 or Heading 2. When I re-open a doc, the headings are no longer collapsed. All I get with a Google search is how to collapse headings. Win 10 Pro 64 2H22 Office 365

 

Win 10, Word 2007, Document Map Headings

I have a problem with Word Document Map Headings. Right clicking in the document map window no longer collapses headings. I'm using Windows 10, Word 2007, a home network of 3 computers using shared documents residing on the primary computer. I've made no changes to any software. I typically pull documents from the primary computer when working on either of the other computers. This problem was originally only on 1 computer, now I have it on a 2nd computer (3rd computer still collapses headings), and it doesn't matter where the documents reside. All Word documents work fine in all other respects, and I use standard Word headings. When I click on a heading in the map window it will highlight and the cursor jumps to the text. But I don't have left click options, i.e. collapse the headings. The other day I noticed it on the primary computer, so I figured that it might be the result of some key strokes. I do use the ascii code for degree symbols quite often (alt+0176) and do miskey it occasionally. Did I mention I cannot collapse the headings!!! Grrr!!! Any ideas?

 

Win 10, Word 2007, Document Map Headings

Right-clicking on my Word 2007 document maps has never collapsed headings. Whilst there is nothing in Word 2007 Help on the subject, this article matches the behaviour I see & have always seen Learn How to Use the Document Map in Word 2007 - HTG I collapse & expand the headings by clicking on the + and - boxes or by using the right-click context menu. This behaviour is confirmed in Use the Navigation pane in Word 2007 All the best, Denis
