Windows 10 Contacts with generic IMAP mailbox

I have a gmail acct and an acct on a server with dovecot on linux. I am using the Windows 10 mail (the app that comes with W10, NOT Outlook). I have added both accounts as IMAP accounts.

In Windows Mail, I have many fewer contacts than if I go to the gmail contacts web page. And for my imap mailbox, it seems like none of those contacts appear (no one who sent me mail on that server ended up in my contacts list).

I realize that IMAP is a mail protocol, but could someone please explain to me where these contacts come from and what I need to do to "import" them from old messages, especially things I replied to?

IMAP is a mail user agent access protocol. As far as I'm aware, contacts are not part of this protocol. So then what is the correct way to have a contact list on a server when your mail is stored in an IMAP mailbox?

 

Trouble deleting IMAP Mailbox on N73

I'll try to relate the entire story here, in the hopes that someone from Nokia will turn it into a proper bug report. I initially setup my N73 ME with an IMAP email account, and it was working fine, and alerting me to new emails. I backed up my settings
using PC Suite, upgraded the firmware to the latest version, then restored my settings. My old mailbox was re-created, and worked fine, however I soon realised it was not automatically notifying me of new email any more. (Yes, I verified that the setting was
enabled, many times.)

After reading some other threads I decided to delete the email account and recreate it. After deleting the Mailbox (it no longer shows up under Email Settings/Mailboxes at all), the server is -still- listed under the main Messaging menu, and when I go into
it, it is still connected to the server and shows new messages. Not only this, but NOW it is notifying me of new emails!

So now, it's doing what I want it to do, however since no email Mailbox is actually defined in my E-Mail Settings, I can't actually change any settings.

I assume something funny happened when I copied the old settings over from my backup.

Now I went into my email settings, and created a new mailbox under a new name. The old mailbox seems to have disappeared, and I am now getting email notifications. Very odd in general, but all seems to be working.

 

Can't change incomming mailbox type from POP3 to IMAP

I am having this very problem. The phone remembers the pop settings, server name, etc., even though I have changed them everywhere, including on email.nokia.com. It remembers the old pop settings, which are incorrect and invalid, and it will not allow me
to create a new mailbox with imap settings. The correct imap settings and server names have been entered in email.nokia.com. I have an e71. Thanks!
