    How to move an SSD with Windows 10 installation to another laptop?


    I want to move the SSD from my old laptop (which includes EFI and C partition of a Windows 10 installation) to another laptop. On old laptop the SSD was mounted in the place of optical disc drive (secondary drive, named HD1 instead of HD0) and will be mounted on new laptop as secondary drive as well.

    • How to let the UEFI of new laptop boot from the EFI partition from this SSD?
    • Will Windows on the SSD still be activated? (The Windows 10 on SSD has a retail license which was obtained while upgrading from a OEM Windows 8.1 back in 2015)
    • Will the system have serious problem running for the first time, since hardwares have changed drastically (old laptop: Intel i5 CPU + AMD Radeon GPU; new laptop: AMD Ryzen CPU + nVidia GPU)?

    I'm going to be building a new PC on Christmas and want to install Windows 10 on it. I have Windows 10 on my current PC, which I installed upgrading from 8.1 with the files on a USB. How do I go about installing a clean copy of Windows 10 on this new PC? I think I recall something about installing it once makes Microsoft recognize your hardware, but since this will be a PC I'm not sure what steps I need to take. Do I need to go 8.1 -> 10 or is there a method of going directly to 10?
