How to move my local OneDrive folder to normal user account and completely disconnect my PC...

So, I recently installed Windows 11 Pro on a new computer. It's been a while since I installed Windows and just followed the recommended prompts. So, my computer was linked to my Microsoft account which I didn't really want. When I saw that OneDrive was by default backing up my Documents folder, I detached OneDrive from my computer and then uninstalled OneDrive. At least, I'm pretty sure that's what I did it was a week ago.I set up my computer so that I could RDP into it. But I didn't want to use my Microsoft account & password to do so. So, I created a "local account" called "Dani

Local Acct user and MS account user - sync them or merge them

If the local account is the one where you have most of your personal data, this is how I would do it:

    • Sign in to your Microsoft account
    • Copy all documents, pictures and other personal data from Microsoft account's user folders to corresponding folders in user Public (contents of MS account Documents folder to Public Documents folder and so on)
    • Sign out from Microsoft account
Notice that above steps are only required if Microsoft account user folders contain data you want to keep. If its user folders are empty or do not contain anything worth saving, you can skip the above steps. Continue from below.

    • Sign in to the local account
    • Delete the Microsoft account (Option One in this tutorial)
    • Switch your local account to a Microsoft account (tutorial)
    • Copy the data backed up from old Microsoft account to Public folders to new Microsoft account in corresponding folders

That's it. Using the Public folders as temporary storage you will have none whatsoever file owner / permission issues later on.

Thank you. I will give it a try later today and post my results.

Got to it sooner than I thought.
    Your method worked perfectly.

    Thank you

Folders in "This PC" changed to OneDrive after version 1511, 10586 update

    Hi David,

    • Which account are you using? Is it Microsoft account or Local Account?
If you are using an Microsoft account, I would suggest you to switch to Local account once and again login in to your Microsoft account and check if you can restore defaults.

    Follow the below steps:

Step 1: To convert to local account, follow the steps below:

    • Sign in to your
      Microsoft account
      on Windows 10.

    • Click Start and then PC settings.

    • Click Users and accounts and under Your Profile click Disconnect on the right of the screen.

    • Enter your Microsoft account's password, and click on Next.

    • Type in a Username,
Password, and Password Hint that you want set for your Local account and click
Next. Click on Sign out and Finish button.
Step 2: To switch back to Microsoft account, follow these steps:

    • On the newly converted Local account, click Start and then PC Settings.

    • Click Users and accounts and under Your Profile click Connect to a Microsoft account.

    • Enter the Microsoft account ID and Password, and click Next.

    • Choose if you want OneDrive as your default file saving location, click Next.

    • Click Switch.
    Hope this helps.
