  1. How to only allow Microsoft family members access to network folder on LAN?

    • 2 Windows 10 Pro PCs on local LAN
    • Each logged in to separate Microsoft accounts that are considered same "family" on Microsoft.com
    • Would like to share folder using password-protected credentials
    • Added other-pc account to folder's permissions (i.e., account's email address that appeared in credential search)
    • Try to log-in from other PC, asks for network credentials, type in Microsoft account email/password, but is rejected every time.
    • How to make work?

I would not like to simply share with "everyone" because that seems insecure (but it works)... how can I use the other-pc's account's credentials to see my PC's folder on the LAN, or what is the best option while maintaining security?

broken "family member needs to sign in"

Parental controls stopped working. Family.Microsoft.com has alert: "Your family member needs to sign in to their Windows 10 device AngLaptop2014 for family features to work.

But the "how to fix this" says

    • Select Accounts > Family & other people
    • Under Your family, select your family member, then select Allow
    • Have your family member sign in with their Microsoft account if asked to
And the steps don't apply. The account is already allowed, and there is no option to change that.

    Now what???

How to only allow Microsoft family members access to network folder on LAN?

    Microsoft Family Screen Time

    Hi Laurel,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community forum.

This could happen when the child account fails to sync with the server. I suggest you to try the steps listed below and check if it works:

    • Open
      File Explorer
and navigate to the following location:
    • C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Parental Controls

      Note:
The above mentioned directory is hidden, copy and paste the same location on the search bar in the File Explorer to access it.
    • Delete the contents in the
      \\settings
directory of the Parental Controls folder.
    • Reboot the machine to see if the issue persists.

If the issue persists, you may want to remove the child account from Microsoft family and add it again.

    • To know how to remove an account from Microsoft Family, refer:

Remove members from your family group
    • To know how to add an account to Microsoft Family, refer:

Add members to your family group

    Regards,
