How to open a bitLocker-ed file?

I recently installed Window 10 Home on my laptop which used to have Windows 7 Enterprise with bitLocker encryption ON. Before installing Windows 10, I copied all my files to a flash drive but forget to turn bitLocker OFF. Now I cannot copy a lot of files back to/open on my laptop. Fortunately I still have the bitLocker key at hands. When I tried to copy a file to my laptop, I got the following error messageYou need permission to perform this actionYou require permission from S-1-5-21-1232953105-3554727177-2237585830-1000 to make changes to this fileAny advice?

    :)

    opening .dds files with gimp

Simply, HOW? I got the DDS plugin but the POS wont open DDS files still. Can someone give me a step-by-step rundown of how to install the DDS plugin for gimp so I know if I'm missing something?

Massive Security Flaw - Bitlocked Files Can Be Opened From "Recent Files" ...While "Locked" and Without Password!

    Simple steps to reproduce:

    1. Unlock a bitlocked drive.
    2. Open a file from that drive (example = image file)
    3. Reboot machine, confirm drive is relocked.
    4. From "Recent Items," attempt to open the file
    5. The file opens, even though the drive is locked
    WHOA!

Obviously this is a massive security problem that should never occur, but is there a user-implementable fix?

File back up to bitlockered external drive

    Thanks John.

By trial and error the solution is,

    • Set the file back up to the desired external USB drive, Back up using file history.
    • Run backup to completion.
    • Dismount, (Remove) the drive used.
    • Remount (Plug in) the drive used for the file back up (Steps 1&2) and encrypt using Bitlocker.
Note you can only encrypt drives using some versions of Windows (Pro for eg not Home)

    • Once the external drive has been encrypted dismount.
    • Remount the drive, go to the file back up option, Open, Settings, Backup,
      Back up using file history
      .
    • The drive should now still be visible and has been encrypted.
    • Accessing the drive will be dependant on how it was set up in Bitlocker,
Open with this PC, password, pin code
      etc.
    • Repeat file back up as in the first two steps.

    Hope this helps someone else.
