    Hi all. Found this post a while back discussing the same problem I’m having today after installing the new chromium edge browser. Does anyone know of a solution yet? I would like when I click a pdf link for it to automatically open in Sumatra (my default reader) like it did in chrome. Currently, even with the “Always open PDF files externally” option ON, a “PDF reader is disabled” popup will appear, and force me to download the pdf manually, then go into File Explorer to open it in Sumatra. Is there some kind of workaround or solution for this problem?

    Cannot download or open pdf in Edge


    Sometime over the past couple of days I have lost the ability to download any files when browsing with Edge and I cannot open PDF files from within Edge either.

    Downloading just says xxxx.yyy couldn't be downloaded and nothing will fix it - yet I can download using IE or Chrome to the same downloads directory. Attempts to open pdf files get exactly the same response.

    Any suggestions? I really like Edge and it annoys me that I cannot use it anymore.

    Trouble Opening PDF's

    Hi Parker,



    Thank you for posting on Microsoft Community. We will assist you in resolving the issue.



    Before assisting further, I would like to ask you few questions:

    • Does the issue persist in Edge browser?
    • Do you get similar error when you open the PDF file in Adobe reader?


    Check if you are facing similar issue in Edge browser.



    Step 1: Open PDF file in Adobe reader and check if you are facing similar issue.



    To open PDF file directly from Adobe reader, follow the steps below:



    • Open Adobe application and click on Edit.
    • Click on Preferences and select Internet.
    • Uncheck Display PDF in Browser option and check if you are able to open the PDF file without getting the error code.


    Step 2: If you are able to open PDF file in Adobe reader, I suggest you to
    Turn off Internet Explorer,
    enable it again and check if the issue is resolved.



    For further assistance, I suggest you to post your query in Adobe support forum.
