Windows 10: "How to open this file" prompt after searching for Excel files from the taskbar

Hello,Since upgrading to Windows 11, I am confronted with that issue for which I haven't found a proper solution.When I search for an Excel file from the taskbar and click on it to open it I am systematically prompted with the "How to open this file". I have set Excel as the default app for .xls .xlsx and their variants an extravagant number of times but it still happens.This is NOT linked to the storage system as it happens for files stored on DropBox, OneDrive, Google Drive and locally on the laptop.This does not happen when directly navigating in the File Explorer to the file location and d

Excel file sticks to Taskbar

I pinned one Excel file to the taskbar. Despite I click on "Unpin from this list" icon, it keeps sticking to the taskbar. I pinned another Excel file to the
taskbar and unpinned it easily. Thus, this is the only Excel file affected. Help me to unpin it

OK, I tried it and it works for me. Maybe you should repin them?

I pinned Excel to the taskbar, then drug three files to it and pinned them to Excel 2016. I've opened each one by right clicking on the Excel icon, then a left click on the one I want to open. Voila!

Hi Wynona, thanks for dropping in.

Wayne has the Excel shortcut pinned to the taskbar. When he right-clicks that icon, the jump list of recent files shows above the icon. Usually, you can click one of those recent files, and Excel will open that file. His problem is, it's not working like that and only opens Excel the program - then he has to go through the extra steps of opening the file. We've tried unpinning - re-pinning, clearing out the MRUs, and repairing Office (both local and online repair). Nothing has worked.

He did have one corrupt spreadsheet, which he has recovered into a new spreadsheet, and I'm wondering if that had anything to do with it? If so, is there a way to remedy now that the corrupted spreadsheet is gone? (It is gone now, right Wayne?)
