    How to overcome maximum length of 259 characters in Windows Run (Win+R) commands?


    I pass onenote-links to win+r. However, some of them are longer than 259 characters and are cutted off. Consequently, they cannot be opened.

    I already set the LongPathsEnabled value in

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem

    from 0 to 1 and restarted my PC.

    The 259 characters limit is still there.

    Any ideas? Any help is highly appreciated.

    Pin length maximum to low

    I've found a solution.

    A Windows-update my changed the default policy about maximum PIN-Length.

    It can be fixed by applying a defined rule inside the Local Group Policy Editor.

    Step by Step:

    1. Open the Local Group Policy Editor.

    2. Go to Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\PIN Complexity

    3. Change Maximum PIN Length to disabledThis solution worked in my case I hope it could help someone else as well.

    Windows: 8192 character command line length limit

    Dear experts,

    do we have some news about when the current 8192 character command line length limit will be removed?

    Can one expect to have a Windows distribution which allows the user to set environment variables like
    PATH or PYTHONPATH which length can be larger than the current OS limitation set to 8192 characters?

    There is no fix or workaround for your inquiry other than your listed exceptions are these are not defined as "issues" by Microsoft but more of as a limitation:

    Path length limitations for common files

    Microsoft Word: 259 characters.

    Microsoft PowerPoint: 259 characters.

    Microsoft Access: 259 characters.

    Microsoft Excel: 218 characters.

    Microsoft Windows standard file path limit is 259-characters which means rule may apply to other type file (e,g,. .PDF, .TXT).
