Windows 10: How To PERMANENTLY Kill flawed UPDATE ?

anyone know the answer? what I do know is that the method that worked with windows 7 causes problems with windows 10. I have a device driver that does not work. lenovo et al will need some better device driver programmmers to take charge but 'till then I need it dead and gone. despite turning OFF device driver updates via sys properties/advanced/hardware, it still tees up a failed sound device driver. Despite stopping winupdate, removing the software distribution folder and letting it rebuild, it STILL insists on teeing up the Audio device driver install again, which hangs permanently.

How to permanently kill a process in Windows 10

A few days ago I recently successfully installed a got a very big Windows 10 update (Creators update? I don't know for sure.)

Now the Internet Connection Sharing process uses a lot of CPU all the time. I had to download the Process Explorer app to kill it. But when I kill it, it comes back after a few moments.

How do I permanently kill this process? How do I prevent it from starting in the first place? From all that I can see I don't need this process running.

Is this a problem that other people have? Does Microsoft plan to issue a fix?

This process is quickly draining my laptop battery.

If it is listed under "Peripheral Devices" in the BIOS then you can disable from the BIOS which Windows will not know if the device is existed.

It's awkward to use, because it only works with updates that are available but not yet installed. I believe that I tried it during the previews to prevent a beta nVidia graphics driver from being overwritten by an older WHQL driver. I also believe that it didn't work.

 

Well there are 3 steps, that has to be taken to disable driver updates properly (link).

this SHOULD HAVE BEEN the right answer. Doesn't work.
There are some drivers "more equal than others".
despite blocking via Advanced Properties AND via the supplied tool below, Windows 10 Update still insists on reinstalling bad driver. I remove, it tees up again on the next network fetch. wash-rinse-repeat


Device driver installs in general can be opted out of via Properties/advanced/hardware but that's not the whole story is it? somehow the winupdate function has some drivers more equal than others and insists on installing them regardless, which is I guess what prompted the creation of this obscure tool.

If the driver is already installed, then Windows will just reconfigure it when windows update runs. The drive already is in your driver cache, so uninstalling it in device manager does not remove it from your system. I know you said you already rebuilt this, but that was before you downloaded and used the tool to stop it.
