  1. How to permanently lock the microphone volume in Windows 10

Amusingly, most of the microphone-related questions on here are about people asking how to change the volume level, which is basically the opposite of what I want.

I want to be be able to lock the input level of my microphone, preferably permanently. I do a lot of recording, and the default Windows volume 70% causes a lot of peaking, so I usually reduce it to about 35%. The physical volume knob on the microphone - a Blue Yeti - is already at about 25%, but changing it doesn't affect the distortions. It frequently resets to the default value, sometimes between when I set the volume and when I actually start recording, which is a huge problem.

Apparently this happens when another program takes control of the microphone, sets the volume, and never changes it back to what it was before - and I would be DELIGHTED if there was a way to point-blank prohibit them from doing that.

There are third-party scripts out there to do this, but this is something that really should be built into Windows.

    :)

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
