Windows 10: How to pin a program to the taskbar

I tried https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/pin-apps-and-folders-to-the-desktop-or-taskbar-f3c749fb-e298-4cf1-adda-7fd635df6bb0#WindowsVersion=Windows_10 but both options described there simply open the program. If the program is already open, it opens a second version of the program. In either case, no option is given to pin it to the taskbar.TIA for your helpSweetTasha

I added a third step to the first suggestion, which worked for me:

1. Choose start> All apps,

2. Scroll to the application you want to pin, right click and then click
Pin to taskbar.

3. When the desired icon tile appears in the desktop box, left click on it and drag it into the task bar.

 

Unable to pin programs to the taskbar

After a system restore I cannot pin programs to the taskbar any more (apart from certain Windows programs like the snipping tool, but not explorer.exe for example).

I have tried every single solution/suggestion I have found online, but it still won't do it.

I have also tried to reinstall Windows 11 keeping all my files and settings.

When I try to pin a program, for example explorer.exe, it says that the program has been pinned, but it hasn't.

Pinning "Settings" to the Taskbar

I've tried both suggestions. But thanks to your(?) earlier post, I do have an icon pinned to the taskbar for settings.

Both were my posts In fact, at first I forgot to post the usual steps to pin Settings to taskbar, and rather complicated (which I thought) by suggesting you create a shortcut. Hence the 2nd post. Anyway, glad the shortcut method helped.
