    I have a system with which I used to play 5.1 Music and DVDs directly without the need of additional hardware e.g an audio receiver either with an Asus Xonar card or the internal motherboard sound APU without any issues when it was Windows 7.In windows 10 however I cannot manage to play anything but Stereo sound. I make sure checking the settings when going: right click on the speaker -> sounds -> playback .... etc. the device is set to quadraphonic or 5.1 and that the sound test work fine, with audio coming out from the proper speaker; However the audio when playing media files is alw

    Sorry for the inconvenience caused with Windows 10.

    You may follow the below steps and check if it helps.

    1. Press Windows Key + R and type mmsys.cpl
    and hit enter.

    2. Click the Sounds tab.

    3. In the sound scheme drop down list select "Windows Default".

    4. Check the option Play Windows Startup Sound check box.

    5. Click on Apply.

    Clean install did not fix the sound issue. I did find the following info from MS forum and this fixed my sound issue.


    1. Select IDT High Definition Audio CODEC on Device Manager.
    2. Select Driver tab.
    3. Click Update Driver... button.
    4. Select -> Browse my computer for driver software.
    5. Select -> Let me pickup a list of device drivers on my computer.
    6. Select High Definition Audio Device (Not IDT High Def... this is important.) and click Next.
    Appears Warning message, but reply Yes.
    7. ! Windows has successfully update your driver software.

    Key is step 6.

    1.- Press together Windows key + I ’together to open‘ Settings ’.

    2.- Click on "Update and security".

    3.- Click on "Troubleshoot."

    4.- Click on "Play audio".

    5.- Click on "Run the troubleshooter".

    If the above does not work you can update the audio drivers.
