Windows 10: How to prevent icon widening in tent mode in Windows 10 version 2004

In the 20H1 release of Windows 10 version 2004 there is a new feature for 2-in-1 users whereby, if the computer isn't in "normal" laptop mode, the icons in the taskbar get extra spacing between them to help with selecting them via the touchscreen.


This wastes taskbar real estate for people like me who use the computer as a normal computer in "tent" mode almost 100% of the time using a docking station or bluetooth to connect an external keyboard and mouse.


Is there a way to prevent the taskbar changing when operating in tent mode?

Download and install drivers

If issue still persists, then install the drivers for Windows 8/8.1 from the manufacturer's website in compatibility mode and check if that works.

Make older programs compatible with this version of Windows

Same issue. Yoga Pro 2 becomes VERY sticky in tent mode with Windows 10.

Let me throw my hat into the ring here as somebody who is also having this problem.

However, I'm not getting the same kind of performance changes that John saw with my disk. I ran various use case diagnostics while monitoring task manager in tent/tablet modes on my Yoga and saw no significant difference in terms of CPU/Memory/Disk usage.

Yet, the problem is still definitely present and significant!

Here is a list of various things I've notice slow down in Tent/Tablet mode that clear up as soon as you go back to laptop mode:

- Watching videos on Edge/Firefox

- Scrolling through tiles on Windows 10 "tablet mode"

- Updates to tiles on Windows 10 "tablet mode"

- Editing tile sizes locations (and especially removing tiles)

- Loading and running "metro apps" such as News/Sports/Etc.

Speaking as a tech support guy, this seems like a pretty clear cut case of a graphics driver issue. I went onto the Lenovo website to try to see if an update to the graphics drivers might help, however the version of the Intel graphics drivers they have
on the website (from 7/15/15) are actually older than the ones currently installed on my computer.

Anyway, hope this gets fixed SOON as it is REALLY impacting my ability to enjoy Windows 10!
