  1. How to prevent windows opening apps on a display

    Hi all,

I have a system with two display adaptors and 3 'monitors'.

My main display adaptor has my two usable monitors attached to it, whilst the second display adaptor has a HDMI cable plugged into to a USB HDMI capture card for another computer. This appears to Windows as a generic PnP monitor, but it is not really a viewable monitor as such.

I run OBS a program and direct it to output its video to the second display adaptor with the HDMI capture card plugged in the 3rd 'monitor'.

I want to use my main two displays for running Windows apps, but dont want Windows to ever use the 3rd display. I want this to be used just by the OBS app. I have searched for ages trying to find out if I can do this and drawn a blank.

I would have thought this could be a valuable feature for Windows - especially for folks doing video editing, with one screen reserved for viewing the output and so should not be used by Windows itself for opening apps/dialogs etc.

    Can this be done?

    Regards Tony.

    :)

Mail app will not open on 10041.

    Hello Adam,

This is the suggested solution below if you haven't already tried it. How to prevent windows opening apps on a display :)

In this Windows 10 build 10041, the Mail, Calendar, and People apps may be broken due to a licensing issue with the Store Beta. To get these apps working again, you need to follow these steps:

    • Open powershell as administrator
    • Run the command Get-appxprovisionedpackage –online | where-object {$_.packagename –like “*windowscommunicationsapps*”} | remove-appxprovisionedpackage –online
    • Re-install Mail, People and Calendar from the Store (green tile)
