Windows 10: How to put my Windows 10 PC to sleep mode with some selected programs running?

How can I reduce the power consumption by pausing all programs putting to Sleep but a keep a selected few running e.g. Outlook for email notifications?

From the above description, I understand you want to know if the software installed in Windows 7 can be installed and used on Windows 10 in compatibility mode.

You can run the previous version of software installed on the PC in compatibility mode. This option is available only if you have upgraded from the previous version of Windows to Windows 0 OS.

I suggest you to install the software in Compatibility mode by
following the steps below and check if the issue is resolved.

Step 1: Compatibility mode runs the program in the current version of Windows using the settings from previous version of Windows.

• Download the latest software setup file from the manufacturer’s website or locate the driver setup file of the previous operating system in your PC.
• Right-click on the driver setup file and click on properties.
• Click on the compatibility tab, check the box
  Run this program in compatibility mode for, select Windows 10 operating system from the drop down menu and proceed with the installation.
• Once the driver is installed in compatibility mode,
  restart the PC for the effective changes to take place.

Step 2: You can also follow the steps below and check if the issue is resolved.

• Press Windows logo key on the keyboard and type
  Run programs made for previous versions of Windows.
• Select the top most search result and follow from step 2 from
  Make older programs compatible with this version of Windows (Also applies to Windows
  10).

PC turns on straight away after sleep mode is on

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community. We are sorry for the inconvenience caused.

I see that you system is still on even if the sleep mode option is turned on. This might be due to the change in the power plan settings.

Please follow the below methods and check if it works,

Method 1: I suggest you to run in-built Power troubleshooter and check. Follow the steps:

• Press Windows Key + X.
• Click on Control Panel.
• Select Troubleshooting on the left pane, click on
  View All.
• Click on Power to run the troubleshooter.

Method 2: If the above method doesn’t help, I would suggest you to reset and restore all of the default Power Plans back with their default settings. Follow the steps.

• Press Windows Key + X.
• Type Power Options and then Enter.
• In the left pane Select Change when the computer sleeps.
• Select Restore default settings on this plan.
• Restart the computer and check with the issue.
